We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Parsons recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica, appreciate you joining us today. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
One of the best things I’ve done to show my clients appreciation goes beyond just a welcome gift—it’s about making them feel truly seen, valued, and celebrated throughout our time working together. As a wedding and branding photographer, I don’t just capture moments; I build relationships.
For my wedding clients, I take the time to learn what’s important to them—not just their love story, but the little things that make their day uniquely theirs. One couple, for example, had a deep love for handwritten letters, so when I sent their wedding album, I surprised them with a beautifully framed print of their vows styled in a way that matched their wedding aesthetic. They were overwhelmed with emotion, and it made the experience feel even more personal for them.
For branding clients, I’ve gone the extra mile by not only delivering their images but also offering insights on how to best use them for their website, social media, and marketing. One client told me they felt like I was as invested in their business as they were, and that meant everything to me.
At the heart of it all, I treat each and every client as if they’re my only one, making sure they feel supported, understood, and valued. Because great customer service isn’t just about the transaction—it’s about the connection.
Jessica, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
At J. Parsons Photography, we specialize in blending luxury with authenticity to create vibrant and timeless wedding photography that truly reflects your love story. Our mission is to provide a seamless, elevated experience so you can relax and fully enjoy every moment of your special day. From vendor recommendations to last-minute details, we’re here to ensure everything unfolds effortlessly—so you can focus on what matters most: celebrating your love.
I’m Jessica, the owner, storyteller, and heart behind the lens. My journey as a wedding photographer began over a decade ago, sparked by a deep passion for capturing real moments, raw emotions, and the beauty of love in all its forms. Since then, I’ve had the honor of documenting weddings across Connecticut, New England, and beyond, traveling to breathtaking destinations like Iceland, Puerto Rico, St. Martin, and the Bahamas—with the Dominican Republic up next!
What sets J. Parsons Photography apart is not just the images we create but the experience we provide. I pride myself on being more than just a photographer—I’m a calming presence, a problem solver, and a trusted guide throughout your wedding journey. Whether it’s keeping the day on track, finding the best light, or capturing those fleeting in-between moments, my goal is to make you feel at ease and fully present. When you receive your gallery images you feel like you are at your wedding all over again. We don’t stop there with our offerings such as custom designed & handcrafted heirloom wedding albums and glass or wood engraved memory boxes including prints and a USB drive.
Beyond weddings, I also offer branding or headshot photography, and portrait sessions, always focusing on creating images that feel real, timeless, and true to you. I love getting to know my clients on a personal level, often photographing them through multiple milestones in life.
When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll find me adventuring with my two teenagers, spending time with my fur babies, or hitting the slopes to ski. I’m also a firm believer that iced lattes (yes, even in winter!) and pizza are the ultimate fuel for life.
At the end of the day, my greatest joy is delivering photographs that allow you to relive your most cherished moments for a lifetime. I’d love to get to know you and help tell your story—let’s create something beautiful together.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been a combination of social media presence, local networking, and building genuine relationships within the wedding industry. Platforms like Instagram and Facebook allow me to showcase my work, connect with engaged couples, and provide a glimpse into the experience I offer. By sharing not just beautiful images but also valuable insights, behind-the-scenes moments, and client testimonials, I create an inviting space where potential clients can envision working with me.
Beyond social media, in-person networking has played a crucial role. I prioritize building strong relationships with fellow wedding vendors—planners, florists, venues, and more—by showing up, supporting their work, and fostering a collaborative environment. Word-of-mouth referrals from trusted industry professionals have been invaluable in bringing in new clients who are a great fit for my style and approach.
Above all, I believe that staying true to myself and being genuinely kind, professional, and approachable has been key. Couples appreciate working with someone who not only delivers exceptional images but also makes the process enjoyable and stress-free. Creating an experience where clients feel seen, heard, and cared for has led to heartfelt referrals and returning clients, which I consider the greatest testament to the work I do.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
One of the biggest misconceptions about photography is that anyone can pick up a camera and instantly become a professional. While technology has made cameras more accessible, photography is about so much more than just pressing a button. It’s about understanding light, composition, and storytelling in a way that truly captures the emotion and essence of a moment.
As a wedding photographer, my job is to see things that others might not—the fleeting glances, the tearful smiles, the quiet in-between moments that tell a couple’s story in a way words never could. It’s about knowing how to use light to shape an image, how to anticipate moments before they happen, and how to create something timeless that will outlive the day itself.
Photography is both an art and a responsibility. Long after the music stops, the food is gone, and the flowers have wilted, the images are what remain. They become the only tangible memories of one of the most important days in a couple’s life. For many, these photos will be passed down for generations, serving as a reminder of love, connection, and legacy.
I think non-creatives sometimes struggle to understand the depth of emotion and skill that goes into this craft. It’s not just about taking pictures—it’s about preserving memories in a way that allows people to relive them, even when the details begin to fade. That’s what makes photography such a meaningful and invaluable investment.
