We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jessica Nardi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One deeply underappreciated facet of entrepreneurship is the kind of crazy stuff we have to deal with as business owners. Sometimes it’s crazy positive sometimes it’s crazy negative, but crazy experiences unite entrepreneurs regardless of industry. Can you share a crazy story with our readers?
Hi! So last year I was a part of the La Mesa Farmers Market community.
One day, a woman named Sarah visited our booth. She was wheelchair bound and could barley speak. We waved hello to each other and her son informed me she was seeking out natural body care products that contain Frankincense.
I handed her a sample of our Glow Cuticle Oil; which contains a synergy blend of organic, certified pure therapeutic grade oils, including Frankincense and Rose essential oils. When she applied the oil to her cuticles, she quickly raised her hands under her nose and took a big, deep breath in.
What I witnessed was shocking and astounding. Sarah spoke in a stable, clear tone; her voice controlled and relaxed. She proceeded to explain to me her story and what happens when she uses these amazing holistic, therapeutic oils; in this case, Frankincense.
Sarah went through 17 years of 116 electroconvulsive therapy sessions for a serious condition that was later revealed to be a misdiagnosis. Because she underwent ECT treatment before knowing she was misdiagnosed, she now suffers from diffuse electrical injury on the vagal nerve, recurrent laryngeal nerve, all of her cranial nerves and also suffers respiratory dysfunction due to phrenic nerve malfunction.Basically, the shock treatment charge Sarah underwent had absorbed and diffused through her brainstem to the rest of her body, completely demyelinating her entire nervous system.
She said that quality, therapeutic oils, mainly Frankincense, calms her central nervous system; which is what helps her speak clearly after inhaling and topically applying the oil.
It was pretty much the most incredible moment we have witnessed with our customers. You see, even though our Glow Cuticle Oil is for, well, nourishing your cuticles, the quality oils we use in all our products speak loud and clear. And Sarah is proof of these amazing benefits!
Jessica , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Absolutely. Back in 2016, I moved to Crete, Greece. It became my mission to dive deep into culture, people and land. To become a traveler, not a tourist. I friended all the lovely people in the villages and they showed me how to forage through the Greek fields and mountains.
It was there where I started a European travel blog while also making body care products based of local ingredients, mainly for myself in the beginning. I loved not only learning how the locals live – but to also learn different cultural skin nurturing secrets and to find pure & organic ingredients that our body will respond happily to.
Our products made their first appearance in the Stavros Charity Bazaar on the island of Crete, Greece. The proceeds supported the many stray animals and local animal shelters on the Island. When I moved back to San Diego in 2020; after many wonderful years curating and perfecting our formulas, I decided to continue the journey and keep the business going here in the US due to high demand.
Our ingredients have been thoughtfully and carefully selected. We strive to find healthy, quality ingredients that benefit mind, body and soul; and we include them into our eco-friendly and holistic creams, scrubs & oils.
We only use particular organic CPTG Essential Oils that have been tested and evaluated throughout every single batch – giving you a quality product you can trust. No parabens. No sulfates. No dyes. No phthalates. Eco-conscious and animal cruelty- free. Period.
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
I really wanted to keep our products simple. Since my story has evolved through the blog, I wanted to keep it that way. All our products are found only on our website, pureorganicworld.com. In store, you can now find our products at Adore Boutique in Carlsbad and Be Polished in Coronado, San Diego. Sometimes we join pop up events throughout San Diego. You can find out those dates on our Instagram.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Not cutting corners on quality ingredients within our products. Staying consistent with small batch productions. Being completely transparent in the manufacture process.
