We recently connected with Jessica N. Sauls and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica N. , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
I remember it like it was yesterday. Dec 12, 2016. My first client for the day was Brandy. She had been my client during my apprenticeship. Her and I hit it off the first day we meet. I was busy tidying up and a little nervous due to the fact this was it. Brandy walked in and the first thing she said was, ” I love it.’ I knew at that moment that this was the place for me.
At the end of our appointment I asked her to sign a dollar and it is framed and hung in the salon as a reminder. Brandy and her family are still loyal clients to this day.
Jessica N. , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am an artist at heart. At a young age I began creating and through the years I understood I was a server. I love to help people and love making them feel beautiful. After years in the hospitality business I took a leap of faith and went back to school and received my Master in Cosmetology. With in the first year I took another leap of faith and opened my now Award winning salon. With in the first year of opening my person life turned upside down, My mother fell sick and passed away shortly after. A few years after that I decided to write my first book and am now a published writer. I felt that with all the pain in this world if I could find a way in helping people who were hurting I had to find a way. I am almost finished with my Masters to become a Life Coach for Mental Health.
In my business I see a-lot of people and if there is a way that I can help, that is what I will do.
I love my salon and would not trade it for anything. I just felt that If I have the right training I could help out in a more positive way.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Being authentic. Being yourself is key. You have to give yourself time to figure out your nich. It usually just doesn’t happen. I alway knew I wanted to make things pretty. I just didn’t know what. Once I figured out my gift that is when I began to grow.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth is always the best way. Once you gain the trust of your clientele you will see how it works. Marketing on social media, keep things active. Also I would suggest getting involved in some type of organization.
