We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Munoz recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica , appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
“Sunday scaries’” what’s that? I get to do what I love on a daily basis and I get paid to do it. I genuinely couldn’t be happier! Prior to committing to “Sips and Soirees” full time, I would dedicate time for it on the weekends or after my 9 to 5 and it never felt like enough. The more time went on, the more I’d daydream about it and was convinced that it was my passion.
I did the 9 to 5 and held “regular jobs” that paid well, I was good at, and enjoyed, but even then I felt that something was missing. I kept thinking to myself, “If I can be good at something I like and make money for other businesses… what would happen if I do what I LOVE and make money for myself?”
Fast forward, I’ve been working on my business full time for 2 years now and running a business has helped me grow as a person and artist. It’s not all rainbows and butterflies, running a business is hard work but I get to create something beautiful everyday and make a living while doing it. It feels like such a huge blessing,I wouldn’t trade it for anything!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Jessica Munoz, owner and creative designer behind Sips and Soirées. I create laser cut signage, specializing in themed party decor.
I’ve been a lover of DIY crafts for a long while now. I’ve tried my hand at decorating cupcakes, creating visually appealing cocktails, paper crafts, and most recent laser cut designs. This love and passion for creating has been a long time brewing. It started as hobbies in high school, day dreaming during college years, side hustle after my 9 to 5, and finally my full time career.
What sets me apart is my unique style. I love playing with themes, colors, and making sure the final product passes my “fun & beautiful” expectations. I hope that my clients can see how passionate I am about my work through my custom designs and the quality I bring to every project.
I have recently rolled out the first of my rentals. I hope to provide beautiful options for signage that could be reused across multiple events/clients instead of being stored away or thrown out after being used.
I truly believe that I was born to be creative and make the world a more beautiful place. I also hope to inspire others to do more of what they love and pursue their god given talents.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Growing my social media presence definitely hasn’t been easy. The first thousand followers was definitely the hardest milestone to push through. I’d say what has helped me grow has been posting content consistently 3-5 times a week and daily on stories. Getting exposure on other accounts from vendors in a related industry through collaborations has also been a great help. Simply asking customers to tag your work has really helped get in front of new eyes. Hosting giveaways here and there that get people excited about my products has also helped along the way.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The goal is to make a living doing what I love! I want to keep pushing myself to grow as an artist and business woman because I am great at what I do, I do it with passion and I work hard for it. The mission is to make the world a more beautiful place with the work that I do and to inspire others to use their god given gifts to create their own happiness and be in alignment with what feels right.
It’s about showing others not to settle for a job they don’t like or sort of like because making a living doing what you love is possible and feels so damn good! It’s about creating a life you love, whatever that may look like to you.
