We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Morrow recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica, appreciate you joining us today. It’s easy to look at a business or industry as an outsider and assume it’s super profitable – but we’ve seen over and over again in our conversation with folks that most industries have factors that make profitability a challenge. What’s biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
This is a great question because there has long been a misconception that musicians make all this money and they go on tour and it’s all great, so on and so forth. Touring, it turns out, is not glamorous by any means. You’re trying to stretch money, sometimes you’re going days without getting to shower or sleep in a real bed. The money that musicians make oftentimes are just from having a really lucrative side hustle, such as selling things on the road.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Jessica Morrow & I go by the stage name The Overmorrow, which is really just a fun play on words. I got started in audio manipulation during the first strike of covid. It was a really therapeutic outlet to a chaotic time. I bought my first synthesizer and it was at this time that I was tinkering around quite a bit. When I needed a break I would go take walks in the woods and started video recording nature. It made a lot of sense to merge the visual and audio aspects together.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I really want to create an authentic experience that the listeners feel with their whole being. The videos are from real life scenes and situations. There was only one video I think that was purposefully staged for a theme. The rest of the video work is all just unique situations, walking through cities, capturing people, places and trying to tell a story.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
It’s the freedom to be any version of yourself that you want, the ego, the alter ego, the id. It’s completely boundless & that’s what’s so beautiful about it.
