We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Morale recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My name is Jessica Morale, and I’m an alternative pop singer, songwriter, and self taught producer based in Miami, Florida. Growing up, writing and performing became my therapy and escape from bullies, my insecurities, self harm, and my struggles with depression and anxiety. Performing onstage made me feel like a super hero, and writing songs quickly became my outlet for the demons that plagued me. I make music because I want people to feel like they aren’t alone. What started as my therapy quickly became a way to connect with others. I hope my listeners know that it’s okay to not be okay, it does get better, and they aren’t alone in what they’re going through. I love making music because it makes me feel good and helps me make sense of the world around me, but if my music can be a shining voice for those who feel like they have none, then that’s the best feeling in the world.

Jessica, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jessica Morale, and I’m an alternative pop singer, songwriter, and self taught producer based in Miami, Florida. I write songs about my mental illness, love, sex, and the beauty in imperfection. Growing up, writing and performing became an outlet for my depression and anxiety. Performing onstage made me feel like a super hero, and writing songs helped me make sense of the world around me. I recently released my debut album, Phases, which is a coming of age album that tells the story of the beauty in imperfection. I am beyond proud of this project because its transparency serves as an anthem with a message to persist, regardless of the challenges that lay in one’s path. Off the album, my single “Love Me Better” was featured on MTV’s hit television series, “Teen Mom Young & Pregnant”, which was extremely exciting! I’m an advocate for mental health and female empowerment, and listeners of my music can definitely attest to that! Sonically my music is compared to the likes of Halsey, Tove Lo, FLETCHER, Allie X, and ALMA. Listeners can expect my music to be seething with sparkling synths, crass lyrics, soaring vocals, and cinematic percussion.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I think falling in love with the process is extremely important for anyone going into a creative field. Success isn’t something that happens over night, and I think a lot of people expect instant pay off and expect people to care when they first start in the industry. There have been many times where I thought a single would get more traction than it did, and it’s so easy to get discouraged when things don’t exactly go your way. Falling in love with the process of working hard is so important and is key for longevity and success.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I actually fund my music career by bartending!
