We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jessica Monroy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
One trend I’m loving is the return to analog photography—film, Polaroids, all of it. There’s something magical about slowing down, being intentional, and embracing imperfection. I recently photographed a couple on 35mm during golden hour—no retakes, just real moments. It felt like we were honoring the present. The opportunity? Deeper storytelling. The concern? Patience—it’s not instant, but that’s the beauty.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My journey into photography began with a deep appreciation for memory and emotion. I started by documenting my own family—capturing the in-between moments that often go unnoticed but hold so much meaning. That early passion for storytelling has shaped the way I approach my work today.
I specialize in portraiture, lifestyle, and event photography, offering services for individuals, couples, families, and entrepreneurs. My style blends documentary and editorial approaches, allowing me to create images that feel both timeless and intentional. Whether I’m photographing a founder launching their brand, a couple celebrating an engagement, or a family gathering for the holidays, my goal is to create imagery that feels authentic, personal, and elevated.
What sets me apart is the experience I provide. I pride myself on creating a comfortable, collaborative environment where clients feel confident in front of the camera. I understand that being photographed can feel vulnerable, and I bring both technical expertise and a people-first approach to help guide clients through the process with ease.
What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built with returning clients. Many of them come back year after year, not only for the quality of the images, but for the care and intentionality I bring to every session. At the core of my brand is a belief that photography is more than visuals—it’s about connection, storytelling, and honoring the present moment.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
At the heart of my creative journey is a mission to help people feel seen, confident, and celebrated through imagery. I’m driven by the belief that photography is not just about aesthetics—it’s about presence, memory, and connection. My goal is to create work that honors real moments and real people, especially those who don’t always feel comfortable in front of the camera. I want my clients to walk away not just with beautiful images, but with a renewed sense of self-worth and belonging.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Building genuine relationships is at the core of my business, and I see every client interaction as part of a long-term connection—not just a one-time transaction. I stay in touch through personalized follow-ups, birthday or anniversary check-ins, and thoughtfully crafted newsletters that offer tips, behind-the-scenes content, and early access to sessions or special offers.
I also prioritize creating a positive, memorable experience from the very first interaction. Whether it’s a pre-session phone call, a detailed prep guide, or a handwritten thank-you note, I want clients to feel supported and appreciated every step of the way. Many of my clients return year after year, and I truly believe that consistency, clear communication, and authentic care are what foster that ongoing loyalty.
