Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessica McMurray. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jessica, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The vision behind Fox Contracting Services is to bring a service to the community that will allow them to trust expansion in their area. So often our State laws are not up to par with the economic growth in the area. For example I reside in Coeur d’ Alene, ID and anyone can have an idea for a business register for their business online and in an instant be a “handyman” or “general contractor”. The laws are not fit to help those in the community recognize how easy it is to be taken advantage of.
I took my ability to investigate and vet the best contractors in the community and refer them to home-property owners. I background check, look at their business registrations, and make sure they have the proper general liability insurance. This creates a safe haven for networking and helping those in the community.
Being a single mom in the area it gives me comfort knowing who I can trust with a skilled trade.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My business is Fox Contracting Services I am a referral based service for contractors and home-property owners. I vet the contractors in the area right now, Idaho, Washington State, Arizona, and Montana and bridge the gap in finding the right skilled tradesman or woman for your project! Commercial, residential, big or small!
I take the headache away from having to use “google” and find the right contractor for the project.
I have background in construction, from personal assistant, field project manager, foreman, and front office. I am well educated on the State laws, background checks, and ensuring the general liability insurance is capable of covering the scope of work. I also offer contractors the help with mechanics liens, contracts, document preparation, and do the same for the homeowner. I also extend my service to the homeowner should they need a contractor checked on or to help with filing for violations.
Not only am I female, but I am trustworthy and clients know they will be taken care of and provided the best service. Contractors feel the same. I am bringing integrity back into the community one contractor at a time. I am so proud of my company and the can do work effort with all my contractors and self. Our clients have made the company and I am grateful to have grown as I have, my goal is to have my company in every state in the next 24 months and helping everyone! Let us do the work to find those trusted people to come into your home! Remember knowledge is power and you must protect your investment.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
My advice for managing a team and maintaining high morale would be to always focus on your why, and the community. When it comes to any business big or small, you have to remember you do not get rich in the first five years. It is a growing and learning process, finding what you do well at and how to continue that strategy and growth.
Without your clients you do not have a business, show up everyday and do your best. Answer the phone with a smile, clients can hear that on any phone call. Be pleasant. Your staff will follow and help you grow and hold themselves accountable for your company and will enjoy being a part of it. Remember, we are human not robots, and everyone can have a bad day.
Stay true to yourself and business and watch how far you will go. Without the proper skill and mindset you will set you and your company up for failure.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Being a woman in a “man’s” world in contracting is resilient in itself. I came up with the idea of my business because I am well versed in investigation and also love to network with new people.
I am called the ‘Elle Woods in Contracting World” or the “Girl with Pink Business Cards” I have made a name for myself in the community and it has been great! The outcome is more than I could expect and I am blessed beyond measures. People like to know there is someone out there that cares and wants to be helpful and know that so many in the community are taken advantage of. I am here to help with education and also preferred connections. I always say, I take the headache out of finding the perfect skilled tradesmen or woman for the job!
It has been a hard, tough road but there is light at the end of the tunnel and I am grateful I am still here and building this ladder for women in building for the future!
