We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jessica La’Nae. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jessica below.
Jessica, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you manage your own social media?
As a Single mother working corporate along with assisting in social media with managing small owned businesses along with managing my own social media platform it can be a lot. I do manage everything on my own, from the aesthetic flow to the concept ideas. When I moved to Nashville six years ago I dove into becoming an influencer and had to network heavy which meant responding to all messages myself to help build my name. I believe sticking with managing this myself would help remain authentic to who I am. While seeing my platform grow I do believe it was a great decision for me to make. I have worked in different states modeling, I have had campaigns with named brands and have met amazing people in Nashville. I recently did hit a mark of going viral from being consistent. Since then I would say it can become a heavier task to manage as opportunities with brands start to roll in and I want to ensure I keep my authenticity and content relatable. My insights & advice for other business owners is to just make the content. Everything can be content and the more you show your authentic self the more you will capture the right audience.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Jessica La’Nae. I am a 31 year old social media manager, single mom, influencer and Mental Health advocate. I strive to build a community that is heard, seen and supported by sharing relatable, motivational and content that brings awareness. As a social media manager I focus with small & medium owned businesses who strive to take their platforms to the next level by creating strategies, content pillars and much more. Seeing my clients reach far more engagement than their goals is truly rewarding. Within my own platform bringing awareness to single mom and mental health truly educates those that may have little to no knowledge and help lower the stigma.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Six years ago I was faced with many challenges that hit all in one week. I was working at a retail store and soon found out that I was pregnant, then within just days I lost my job after purchasing my big girl car just weeks prior. I had a lot to face and wasn’t sure how the end of the tunnel looked. I decided to pack up my things and move to a whole different state where I knew no-one but my mother. She supported me as I found a job shortly after. I eventually got a place of my own just one month before having my daughter. Fast forward to six years later and here we are. Within that six years I started a YouTube channel, achieved my Certified lash Technician, became a full-time content creator, got signed to a local model agency and have truly spread my wings.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Being consistent is key. I pride myself in that and have stayed true to it. Through the years I have rebranded and changed aesthetics but all in all I have remained true to myself and have posted the content. Showing up for myself is truly important because if I don’t who else will. Nobody supports you like YOU and that’s important. My advice for others looking to build is to know your nitch, know you exact target audience and be true to yourself. The engagement will come just be consistent.
