We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Joseph recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
I began my career in an office environment, cultivating a strong work ethic and a positive attitude. I accumulated valuable knowledge and experience at each career stage, throughout my professional journey. After years of supporting C-suite executives and other leaders within the healthcare and nonprofit sectors, I recognized my potential to contribute more significantly and assist others more directly.
A pivotal moment in my career occurred when I was promoted to a leadership role as an advocate and fundraiser for healthcare. This position allowed me to leverage my expertise within an organization driven by mission-oriented principles.
My career trajectory has been marked by various opportunities, including roles as an Executive Assistant, Philanthropy and P.R. Manager, and now a Business Development Manager. I attribute each career decision to a defining moment that has shaped my path. I believe that diligence and perseverance yield results and that building awareness, fostering connections, and supporting others has been key to my success.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My journey is profoundly intertwined with my heritage and personal experiences. I’m proud to be a fifth-generation Mexican-American, born in El Paso, Texas, and raised in Sunny South Florida. My background has significantly influenced who I am and my “go-getter” attitude. The values and perspectives rooted in my culture have instilled in me a commitment to making a difference in the community.
My healthcare career has been transformative and eye-opening. Initially, I worked in hospice care, which offered me a perspective on the complexities and challenges individuals and families face at the end of life. This experience deepened my understanding of the importance of compassionate, patient-centered care and fueled my drive to advocate for healthcare.
Transitioning from hospice to my current role has broadened my scope to assist individuals managing chronic illnesses. My focus now is helping people navigate the overwhelming landscape of healthcare options, ensuring they can access the treatment they need at our infusion centers. I’m dedicated to empowering the community by providing them with the knowledge and resources to make informed decisions about receiving care where they choose to receive treatment.
What sets me apart is my commitment to education and advocacy. While individuals may feel powerless in the face of high costs and complex payor systems, we can be the change-makers by educating patients and their families about their options and rights.
I’m particularly proud of my work’s positive impact on the community. It is incredibly fulfilling to see individuals receive the care they need and support them through their healthcare journey. I want everyone to know that my goal is genuine and passionate to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. I aim to be a trusted resource and advocate for those navigating the complexities of chronic illness and healthcare.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being a leader in the community allowed me to establish trust, showcase my expertise, and build strong relationships, which significantly enhanced my reputation within the market. I have always been reliable, value-driven, and, most importantly, genuine. When I’m actively engaged in the community and committees, people seek my assistance, and I consistently deliver by meeting their needs. I always prioritize the team’s success over personal gain. Trust is non-negotiable; earning it for successful business relationships is imperative. I refuse to be the individual who fails to follow through on commitments. My reputation always precedes me. If I commit to something, my responsibilities as a professional are to deliver, and I would always complete a project.
As the saying goes: “Your smile is your logo, your personality is your business card. How you leave others after an experience with you is your trademark.”
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There are many stories that highlight the essence of resilience and purpose, but one that deeply resonates with me is my professional career change. Life often presents us with unexpected opportunities, and while I never imagined the path I am on today, I’ve come to believe that these changes occur for a reason. My career shift wasn’t just a pivot but a profound realignment with my resilience.
In making this transition, I realized the importance of ensuring that my work holds value and meaning. I’ve always been driven to contribute positively and help others rather than merely moving from job to job without purpose. Finding fulfillment in your work is crucial, as passion and commitment drive personal growth and success.
This philosophy isn’t just something I practice; it’s a lesson I actively instill in my children. I encourage them to pursue their goals with dedication and to never settle for anything less than what ignites their passion. Life is too short to work for the sake of working; it’s about finding joy and purpose in your work. Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
