We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Jennings recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your professional career?
Before I became a stay at home mom turned business owner, I was a school counselor and an LPC. Being a school counselor for 8 years taught me more lessons than I can retell, but the overall take away, is that even the little things are important. You never know what choice you make or thing you say will stick with someone. Everyone and everything matters. Remembering little nuggets about people’s lives when I’m chatting at an install, engaging with their kids or pets, truly listening when people are speaking, these are all important aspects (not only as a business owner but as a kind human) that make the difference.
Jessica, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
POP! Got started back in 2020, during the middle of the pandemic when lawn parties were in full swing! People were struggling to try and celebrate- and we saw a huge need to add light to dark times! What we thought would be a small “grab and go” type business, this literally popped into a full fledge installing and design adventure. POP! Fort Worth is a bespoke balloon company, and we specialize in organic balloon garlands and design. We’re known for our whimsical, bright, and light balloons that truly add joy to every event.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
We have had the pleasure of working with moms, businesses, politicians, artists- and everything in between! I would say we are known for our humility, dedication, and love for getting to know our clients. Caring about each install as if it were our own (and chatting our way through themwith said clients!) is what really makes this job (and this company) special. Being relatable and genuinely interested in every customer has helped build our reputation as a team you want to work with (we are also incredibly punctual and give it 110% every time- which definitely helps!)
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Balloons are a creative expression and their own form of art, which makes them a super subjective topic, so remember to be kind. Also, if a job doesn’t have the “wow” factor that others do- there are lots of things to consider! Was it a smaller budget? Did the venue only allow balloons in a certain space? Maybe the client didn’t pick the best color choices (but they love them!) there are LOTS of factors that play into every garland, so keep that mind, don’t judge too harshly.
