Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessica Hunter Hogenmiller and Jenny Hunter Stifter N/A. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jessica Hunter Hogenmiller and Jenny Hunter Stifter, appreciate you joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
Our parents are both artists; our dad is a musician and our mom is a seamstress. They taught us how to follow our passions, embrace the discomfort of being a beginner and the power of hard work and dedication. Growing up our dad practiced his trumpet every night which inspired us to put in our 10,000 hours of practice in our own crafts. Our mom was always dreaming up her next project and making it happen through trial and error which is our favorite way to learn. Our parents are doers and we only naturally are the same way; makers gonna make!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hunter and Co. is consisted of me Hunter & my sister JBones. We have always been creating Jbones is the actual fine artist but we both consider ourselves makers. Jbones creates by print making, tufting, painting & jewelry making. I create by leather working, upholstery, weaving, macrame and jewelry making. We love and embrace our attention disorders because it lets us get our hands into so many different kinds of projects!
Have you ever had to pivot?
We are both moms and have had to change our focus many times in our lives. We always put our families first but we have always tried to remain true to ourselves through our art. We have both motivated each other at different times when the other needed and have allowed each other grace to take a break. Being an artist doesn’t mean you are always all in. Sometimes it’s better to take a step back and allow yourself to enjoy all the other parts of your life… usually that is what makes your art better when you feel compelled to create!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artists is being able to create with & for people I love. My sister and I are the main two artists in our collective but our mom also creates art that we sell! We spend some days dedicated to the process, inspiring and pushing each other to keep going & these are some of our favorite moments together.
