We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jessica Horne. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jessica below.
Jessica , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My first book, Tia’s Tingles became my most meaningful project. Creating my main character Tia brought about a meaning for my writing that surpassed previous projects. My writing now has a purpose to the world and to the part of society that I feel most passionate about. Tia’s Tingles was my first contribution to both of my fields.

Jessica , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Jessica Horne, mother of two, foodie, author, and book lover. I started writing as a child and became more serious as a teenager. The idea for Tia’s Tingles came during my second year of graduate school around 2013. I self-published Tia’s Tingles in 2017 with the encouragement of a very dear friend. The Tia series helps kids of all ages learn more about themselves and about differences in others. Each book tells a different story with a message relating to social and emotional wellness.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I’ve had to unlearn is that no one is born just knowing how to do things. If you want to accomplish something you must put yourself out there and be confident in your ability to be curious. I would get so nervous when I had an idea, I had no clue how to execute. Finding a network of peers who were open and honest with their feedback has opened so many doors. Being honest with yourself about your weaknesses will help you grow stronger.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Simply give them a chance. There are so many writers, artist, illustrators, and other creatives in your very neighborhood that are hoping for a chance to get their work out there. Visit independent art studios, seek out new creatives on social media platforms, or give a review to a new author. We like to know someone out there is listening.
