We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jessica Henson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jessica below.
Jessica, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’ve love to hear an interesting investment story – what was one of the best or worst investments you’ve made? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
One of the best investments I’ve ever made, was investing in myself and my vision for Adorn Murals™. Starting my own mural business required not only financial resources, but an immense commitment of time, energy, and faith in my abilities. It’s been a journey full of learning, growth, and discovery that continues through every project.
One of the most transformative aspects of my self-investment has been my connection with an inspiring community of female muralists known as Rooted, created by RiverBank Art Studio’s founder/lead muralist, Bethany Jansky. Rooted is a collective of some of the most talented female muralists I know, all dedicated to elevating one another’s work and sharing resources. Being part of this community has been a tremendous source of support, insight, and collaboration.
I’ve learned that investing in yourself and your dreams is essential. Not every risk will pay off immediately, and success doesn’t come overnight, but the relationships and growth along the way make it worthwhile.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Jessica Henson, founder and lead muralist of Adorn Murals, a company dedicated to creating custom, deeply personalized murals that bring spaces to life. My journey into the world of muraling began with a deep passion for art and design, nurtured through a background in fine arts and graphic design.
To me and my team, murals are more than just art — they are conversation starters, cherished additions that enhance any space’s personality. Adorn Murals are lasting treasures that can be proudly showcased for years to come.
For anyone considering working with us, I want you to know that our process is collaborative and anchored in authenticity. We focus on understanding your story, vision, and the community you serve. Together, we create art that doesn’t just look beautiful, but also serves a purpose. We’re passionate about transforming spaces — interior or exterior — in ways that inspire, engage, and foster community. Whether you’re a city planner, business owner, non-profit, or want to elevate a space in your home, we’d love to help bring your vision to life in a way that feels truly personalized.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
The Bible is the guiding force in my approach to management, entrepreneurship, and life. It serves as the foundation for all my decisions, providing wisdom, direction, and a constant reminder of my purpose. The principles I draw from scripture shape how I lead Adorn Murals, make business decisions, and interact with clients and colleagues alike.
One scripture that especially influences my approach is Matthew 5:16 : “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” At Adorn Murals, our core values include community engagement and creativity, with an emphasis on creating art that uplifts and inspires others. This verse encourages us to create work that positively impacts people, adding light and beauty to the world in a way that ultimately reflects God’s love and creativity.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely. My creative journey is driven by a mission to bring beauty, connection, and healing to communities — through art. At the heart of Adorn Murals is a desire to transform spaces in ways that inspire, uplift, and tell a meaningful story. I believe that art has the power to bridge gaps, celebrate diversity, and create places where people feel seen and valued. This mission is not just about adding color to walls; it’s about creating spaces that resonate emotionally and reflect the unique spirit of the communities they serve.
I want Adorn Murals to be known not only for the beauty of the art we create, but for the positive impact we leave behind in each community. This mission keeps me grounded and motivated, reminding me that every mural is an opportunity to make a difference.
