We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Gardner recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jessica thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
As a business owner, I feel showing customer appreciation is huge! As a thank you for each order, I try to include a little extra surprise from reusable straws, hair ties or even some fun holiday glasses. I also try to write a little note on each order slip to say thank you and show customers that I am a real person packing your order. It may not be much, but its the thought and I have had customers come back saying they love the little extra goodies.
Jessica, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Rustic Pineapple was born in 2018. It was a dream I had for a long time – an online boutique where I could bring affordable fashion to all women no matter, shape size, or color! I wanted a place where they could shop carefree and feel excited to get dressed each day. As I was researching and doing my own online shopping, I learned that many people behind the business were not willing to build the relationship to keep a customer and I wanted to change that! Each woman who shops with me, becomes a family member.
Our mission statement: I started this business committed to providing the best possible customer service, affordable pricing, and great quality for women of all sizes, to feel beautiful and confident. My goal is for every woman to feel unique, gorgeous, confident and eager to wake up each day and ready to chase their dreams. This business started as a dream of mine many years ago and today it is flourishing into more than I could ever imagine.
Have you ever had to pivot?
In the small business world, to pivot is something we’re always doing. In the years, I have had to pivot more times than I would like to think but I am thankful for each of them. Most currently, I had to pivot with creating my graphic tee line. All graphic tees now are made in-house and can be custom-made. I had so many customers losing out on their tees and or not receiving their orders in time, I decided I was going to change this. I wanted them to feel confident in their shopping and know they would receive their items. Slowly, I am pivoting with bring more items in that are on hand and shipping directly from me so customers know exactly what they are purchasing.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me is word of mouth. There is nothing better than a customer raving about a product they received and telling a friend. This could be from their shopping experience, receiving their package or even the feel/quality of the item they receive! Nothing makes my heart happier than when I find out a customer referred a friend to us to shop!
