Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessica Faulkner . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jessica , thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned what I know about social media honestly by trial and error. I don’t have a lot of close friends that are content creators, so I know what I know by looking things up on YouTube, Google and sometimes I will send a DM to fellow content creators that I have a built a relationship with, and then of course attending and classes that I think could help me.
I think what could have sped up my learning experience, was if I had found someone ( a professional ) that knew alot about content creation that I could have learned from. I feel that if I could have just learned the basics on lighting, planning out content ect. It would have helped me alot starting out.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello!
My name is Jessica Faulkner, and I am the face and brand behind The Glamorous Southern Belle.
I am a fashion, beauty and lifestyle influencer, where once on my socials you will find everything from shopping hauls, baking, cocktails, makeup & fashion looks to me bringing you along to some of my favorite events. I love being able to share with my followers and subscribers the fashion and makeup I am currently loving, upcoming social events, as well as cocktail and sweet treats they can make for the upcoming holiday.
I really started trying to take my brand seriously, like so many others in the lock down. I had wanted to become a influencer on LTK which is a free shopping app where influencers and bloggers can post their fashion looks, makeup, home decor ect. And I got accepted the first try, but the year before I went with some friends to Charleston to take my first set of pictures to post.
I think what I am most proud of is, even though I am still learning my craft, I am proud of myself for sticking to it.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
One of the absolute best ways to build your audience is by simply being yourself! Trust me I know that sounds very clichè, but it’s true. There are sooooo many accounts on social media, catering to all different kinds of interest that if you just be yourself and post why YOU are interested in, like and are passionate about, you will find your people! When I first started, I didn’t think for one minute that there would be sooo many others out there that were my age that was obsessed with pink as I was, but I found them. And then, I thought the same for women who were obsessed with Lilly Pulitzer and southern style, but I posted and again found my people.
I say all that to say, be yourself, make sure you use hashtags that are relevantto your post, post what makes you happy and your audience will find you.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I have a few goals for my brand, but two of them is to become a full-time influencer, so that I can truly do what i love and are passionate about while I am able to take care of my husband and household. The second, is to be published in a southern magazine. No matter how big or small the magazine, full-page or just an article. I want that.
