We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jessica Dorsey. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jessica below.
Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
One of the most heartwarming moments in my career happened during one of my BADD Girl retreats. A woman arrived carrying years of emotional weight; grief, burnout, and feeling unseen. During our “Sacred Release” session, where I combine prayer, energy healing, and prophetic counseling, she finally allowed herself to let go. I held her as she cried, prayed over her, and reminded her that God still had a purpose for her life.
The next morning, she came to breakfast glowing; truly transformed. She told me, “For the first time in years, I feel alive again.” Moments like that remind me why I do this work. As a Spiritual Midwife, I’m not just facilitating retreats; I’m helping women birth themselves back into wholeness. Seeing someone reclaim hope is the greatest reward of my calling.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Dr. Jessica “JaiBella” Wilson-Dorsey, a Spiritual Midwife, Certified Master Christian Holistic Counselor, Certified Holistic Practitioner, and the founder of The Sacred Place, LLC and the BADD Girl Healing Retreat; created for Black women who are Brilliant, Anointed, Divine, and Destined. I am also honored to hold the cultural title of Yeye Oge and to serve as a Princess of Agadangba Kingdom in Lagos, Nigeria, where my work in women’s empowerment and cultural restoration has been recognized internationally. In addition to this, I am the founder of Yeye Healing Hands Foundation, a registered NGO incorporated under the Federal Republic of Nigeria, dedicated to supporting women, children, and community development initiatives. I proudly serve as the Outstanding Queen of the National Sorority Pageant, where my platform B.O.L.D.—Building Outstanding Lives Daily is a purpose-driven empowerment movement designed to help individuals live with confidence, courage, and spiritual wholeness.
For over 20 years, I have served as a licensed and ordained prophetess in the church, yet God eventually led me into the realm of holistic health and wellness; an area many Christians misunderstand or shy away from.
As an Afro-Indigenous woman, I went through a personal decolonization and deconstruction of my faith so I could rediscover God in a way that honored both my spiritual foundation and my cultural inheritance. That journey reshaped my calling. My work now blends Christian holistic counseling, prophetic insight, energy healing, somatic practices, and cultural reclamation rooted in ancestral wisdom.
I entered this field because I saw so many women; especially women of color, carrying silent wounds: hurt, burnout, identity loss, and spiritual disconnection. I knew God was calling me to create a safe place where healing could truly happen. Through The Sacred Place, I provide intuitive counseling, Christian-based holistic sessions, spiritual development classes, and certification programs for those called to healing work.
My signature BADD Girl Retreat is a transformational experience designed to help women break cycles, reclaim identity, and birth a renewed version of themselves. We return to nature; because the mountains, the water, and the quiet become our sanctuary. God has always spoken to His prophets in the mountains, and I’ve witnessed Him meet us there time and time again. Through sisterhood, inner-child work, guided release sessions, rest, worship, and holistic wellness, women step back into alignment and divine purpose.
While I love the church, I also recognize that many are hurting silently on the pews. Some need an intimate, Spirit-led environment where a prophetic intuitive can meet their individual spiritual needs. That is the heart of my practice. I do not simply offer services; I walk with women through their becoming.
What sets my work apart is the integration of faith, culture, and intuitive healing. I am most proud of witnessing hundreds of women reclaim joy, identity, confidence, and spiritual clarity through this work. My mission is simple: to help women heal, rise, and walk boldly into the more excellent way God designed for them.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
One of the biggest pivots in my life and career came when God called me out of traditional church ministry and into the realm of holistic health and wellness. I had served more than 20 years as a licensed and ordained prophetess, and the church was all I had ever known. But as I counseled women, I kept encountering the same silent wounds; pain behind the smile, trauma behind the praise, burnout behind the titles. And I recognized that the tools many of us relied on simply weren’t addressing the deeper layers of emotional, ancestral, and spiritual injury that women of color were carrying.
That’s when God began tugging on me to expand my understanding of healing. At first, I resisted, because holistic wellness is an area many Christians demonize or shy away from. But the Holy Spirit kept impressing on me that healing is not limited to four walls; that God is also in the breath, the body, the land, and the cultural practices we were taught to forget.
As an Afro-Indigenous woman, I went through a profound decolonization and deconstruction of my faith. I had to unlearn fear-based teachings and rediscover God in a way that honored my ancestry and cultural inheritance. That process changed my life. It became the foundation for The Sacred Place and my BADD Girl Healing Retreat, where I now blend Christian holistic counseling, energy work, somatic practices, prophetic insight, and nature-based healing.
Pivoting from traditional ministry to holistic spiritual care wasn’t easy; people questioned it, misunderstood it, and sometimes criticized it. But it was the most obedient and transformative shift I’ve ever made. Today, I get to witness women reclaim their identity, heal their inner child, reconnect with God, and break generational cycles in ways I could have never imagined before.
My pivot taught me this:
Sometimes God calls you away from what’s familiar so He can expand your assignment.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One of the most defining moments of resilience in my life was walking through my divorce; a season that broke me open in ways I never expected. For years, I had been the strong one: the minister, the counselor, the leader, the woman everyone came to for healing. Yet privately, I was facing the unraveling of a life I thought would be permanent. Divorce brings a specific kind of grief; one that forces you to mourn what was, what could have been, and who you believed yourself to be in that relationship.
At the same time, I was navigating burnout, spiritual exhaustion, and a deep sense that God was calling me into a new identity. My divorce became the catalyst that pushed me into my own decolonization, my own inner healing, and ultimately, the reclamation of my Afro-Indigenous roots. It was painful, lonely, and humbling; but it was also the beginning of my rebirth.
When I chose to reimagine my life, return to myself, and answer God’s call into holistic wellness, I faced criticism, misunderstanding, and even loss from people who couldn’t understand my evolution. Yet, in the midst of heartbreak, I found my voice, my purpose, and the courage to create The Sacred Place and the BADD Girl Healing Retreat.
There were days I questioned everything. Days I cried in the car before going into sessions where I was expected to be “strong.” But resilience taught me to keep moving; broken, but becoming. I realized that healing is not about pretending the pain never happened; it’s about transforming the pain into purpose. My resilience is rooted in this truth: I survived my own breaking so I could help other women survive theirs.
Today, when I watch women rise at my retreats; restored, awakened, and whole; I am reminded that my divorce was not a failure. It was an initiation. A holy shift that prepared me to walk with women through their own rebirth.
I also wrote a book about this journey, From Ashes to Crown
Your newest book, written this year; a powerful memoir of transformation, spiritual reclamation, and healing. I was apart of two anthologies: 1) SHE: The Anthology
Chapter Title: She Is Divine: From Survival to Self-Love. A powerful collaborative work created and curated by Erial Ramsey, The Dream Queen. My contribution tells a transformational story of identity, healing, and rising into divine feminine power.
2) Bloom and Flourish
My Chapter Title: Blossoming the Sacred Woman Within. An anthology guiding women into release, renewal, and spiritual elevation. My chapter focuses on tapping into the Sacred Woman within and embracing beauty, wisdom, and divine identity.
Even though I’ve experienced abuse, betrayal, and the deep heartbreak of divorce, my resilience allowed me to rise, heal, and rebuild my life from the inside out. Those seasons didn’t break me; they refined me. They pushed me into deeper self-awareness, into my calling as a healer, and into the fullness of the woman I was always meant to be.
In addition to my work as a Spiritual Midwife and holistic practitioner, I am also an actress and soul songstress also known as “JaiBella”. Whether I am performing R&B/Neo-Soul or ministering through gospel, I infuse healing into every lyric, every note, and every moment on stage. My art is an extension of my assignment; helping people feel, release, and reconnect with themselves and with God.
My journey taught me that resilience isn’t just about surviving; it’s about transforming. And today, I use every part of my story; my voice, my gifts, my anointing; to help others rise into their own healing and wholeness.
