Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessica Dean. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jessica , thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name of my mobile bartending company is “ Jess Mix It “ . The Jess comes from my full first name Jessica as people call me Jess for short . The “ Mix It “ comes from making drinks . Just Mixing It is how it pronounced but using my name in it gives it originality .
Jessica , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jessica Dean and I am the owner and master mixologist of Jess Mix It Bartending . I am a South Georgia / North Florida bartending company . I provide mixing drink services for varies of events such as birthday parties , baby showers , class reunions . I mainly specialize in weddings . Weddings are my signature event , they keep me booked and able to showcase my skills . Each wedding I bartend for is different and unique in its own way . I create 3 signature drinks that are tailored to the groom and bride . It gives them the all about them feel to accompany their special day . I am proud of how I have built my business up from my first event being February 2020 to now in April 2025 I am booked until August 2025 . It’s a blessings to be referred and the first one thought of when needing bartending services .
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Growing clientele is easy but also hard . I grew my clientele by recommending myself . If I would see someone looking for a bartender I would reach out to them instead of waiting to see if they would get information from someone to reach out to me . I make myself available even when I’m not to do events to be seemed as reliable for events . With the industry that I am in and new distilled beverages are coming out daily I stay fully updated on trends . What are the hottest drinks , the hottest tequlia and cognac out at the given time . I became versatile in my mixing . I learned how to do frozen drinks and even cocktails . I widen my events that I accept and do and sometimes I even given deals on packages .
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I didn’t start bartending until February 2020 . That’s was my first event but I did so well you would think I had done events before . I first started off making drinks and selling them out my house as a side hustle to pay for childcare while I was pregnant and couldn’t work . As time went on selling drinks every weekend paid all of my bills . I would profit what someone works for 2 weeks at 80 hours in 6 hours in 3 days . That side hustle was no longer a side it became my main income . As I started to do events , I was given a bartending job at a local nightclub . It was doing so well until I didn’t have to sell drinks only one day of the week because bartending at the club was bringing in good income . I bartended at the club for 3 years , within those 3 years I went to school to obtain my Pharmacy Technician license , debt free . As one night of bartending paid for my tuition. Great things came from bartending .
