Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessica De La Cruz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jessica, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I have built a 20-year career for myself in the pharma and biotech industry. I met a lot of great people over the years and working in this type of industry you definitely feel a sense of accomplishment because you know what you do day in and day out has a positive effect on a patients’ life.
I have always had an interest in the Real Estate industry. However, since I never took that leap in years past, I felt somewhat intimidated of leaving my comfort zone and diving into something completely new. My passion for helping others along with my experiences of owning and selling my own homes started to peak my interests once more, and finally pushed me to make that move thanks to a friend I met in the biotech world who encouraged me and had recently done the same.
It is always a risk to start your own business, but I am happy to say that it was the best decision of my life!

Jessica, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into the Real Estate industry based upon the good experiences I had with my personal homebuying journeys. I will never forget the feeling of moving into my very first home, coming from apartment living all of my life prior to that moment. Home ownership is a huge accomplishment in my eyes and getting to that milestone in life is an experience I will never forget.
I really enjoy helping people, so once I made the decision to jump into the Real Estate industry, I knew it was the right fit for me. I always let my clients know that I am here to provide them the best customer service, and pride myself with providing excellent communication and information every step of the way to ensure the best possible experience for them, be it a first-time home buy, or investment property.
The genuine care I have for my clients is what sets me apart. I appreciate them trusting me as their Real Estate Professional, and so I ensure to provide them with the best possible service going above and beyond to guide and keep them informed throughout the home buying process. I believe in building strong relationships within my community and enjoy seeing my clients walk away happy with their purchase.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
I met my very good friend Mashall at biotech start up we were both working at. while we were working together she mentioned she was in school studying to get her real estate license. Since this was something I had always had interest in, I told her once she finished to let me know how things were going and that I would be interested in joining her possibly.
Some time past, we both left the company we were working for, but we still kept in touch. She told me how much she was enjoying this new career as a realtor and that she wished she would have started this year ago. This really motivated me to push forward and get licensed. At the time I was working in another city in which my daily commute was close to three hours a day.
Fast forward about six months and I got my license and have not looked back! No more commuting, working hours that are flexible with my life and family, and I am meeting great people and enjoying life! I am so thankful first of all to God for putting Mahsall in my path as she is a great friend and mentor to me as I have taken on this career.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The pivot in career that happened for me was when I looked back at my life especially after my first daughter was born. At the time I was working for a company and I was on a 12 hour graveyard schedule. I thought back to the times where I missed her first steps, missed out taking her to school, pick ups, and all the other moments we sometimes take for granted as parents. I worked so much at the start of my career, and learned a lot, but now I know I can never get that time back.
Now I have a younger daughter who is in elementary school, and I am now able to take and pick them both up from school and have the flexibility with my time that I never had before. I am truly blessed to be able to make my own hours, do something I love for a living and also being present for my family at all times.
