We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jessica Dawson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jessica below.
Jessica, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
My path wasn’t straight from Real Estate studies to Wall Street. It took a detour through the aisles of Home Depot, where, amidst helping customers find the perfect faucet or unclogging a toilet, I learned a different kind of lesson: the power of hard work, motivation, and financial literacy. Witnessing the struggle of my colleagues, often stuck in a cycle of low wages and limited financial options, sparked a fire within me. I knew I wanted to help, but how?
The answer came not in a boardroom but in a whispered conversation with a grateful contractor. Against company policy, he wanted to show his appreciation for my assistance. That simple act ignited a spark: FISK: Mobile Tipping. A platform where service industry workers could receive tips, but with a twist – a portion automatically invested in their future.
I wasn’t a tech wizard, but the vision was clear. With my best friend Nicole by my side, we rolled up our sleeves. We pitched, hustled, raised capital, and slowly, FISK began to take shape. Every hurdle, every sleepless night, was fueled by the belief that we were building something bigger than ourselves.
Fisk wasn’t just about tips. It was about opportunity. It was about micro-investments adding up, building wealth for individuals and families, and creating a ripple effect of financial security. It was about empowering people to take control of their futures, one small transaction at a time.
This wasn’t just about a company, it was about a movement—a movement towards taking responsibility for our financial well-being and building a future where everyone can thrive.
Sure, I risked everything. My savings and my retirement are all for this dream. But it wasn’t a reckless gamble. It was a calculated leap of faith fueled by a deep-seated love for my country and its people. I saw the financial struggles, the anxieties, the uncertainty, and I knew FISK could be a beacon of hope.
We’re still on the cusp of launch, but the journey has been exhilarating. It’s a testament to the power of perseverance, believing in an idea bigger than ourselves, and the incredible people who come together to make it happen.
So, would I do it all again? In a heartbeat. Because JFK was right – it’s not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country. And FISK, I believe, is my answer to that call.
Get ready, America. Epic times are indeed ahead, and we’re all building them together, one tip, one investment, one hopeful future at a time.

Jessica, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I used to be lost and unsure of my purpose. I floundered, making mistakes and repeating patterns. I was good at discipline in some areas, but others, like reading, felt like a chore.
Then, I discovered Audible and went all in. Strict schedule, early mornings, audiobooks on walks. I devoured books on topics like business, motivation, and wealth building. I realized the power of knowledge and its ability to shape our lives.
My point? We’re all unique, but most get caught up in the same routines and noise. We forget the power within us. We can choose to learn, grow, and create our own paths. It’s not about following the herd; it’s about discovering what makes us happy and using that knowledge to help others.
We can’t control others, but we can influence them. Sharing our knowledge and helping others find their own light is what it’s all about.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
While traditional leaders delegate, the early stages of entrepreneurship demand a different approach. Entrepreneurs become the driving force, setting the pace and embodying the vision with unwavering commitment. This dedication requires wearing multiple hats, working tirelessly, and navigating the inevitable challenges with strategic foresight.
Imagine yourself as the captain of a ship navigating a storm. Your trusted second in command offers support, but the ultimate responsibility rests on your shoulders. This initial phase demands immense energy, so striking a balance is crucial. Avoid the pitfalls of neglecting your well-being. Prioritize proper nutrition, adequate sleep, and healthy exercise.
Furthermore, cultivate techniques for managing stress, such as meditation. Consider the power of sound – I find calming music, like Solfeggio Frequencies, particularly effective.
My entrepreneurial journey has revealed valuable insights. Cross-industry learning is key. For instance, my experience as a massage therapist, where I focused on understanding energy and flow, allows me to view financial management through a similar lens. Recognizing and regulating this energy flow is fundamental.
Leadership boils down to “longitude, latitude, and attitude.” Respect your team – they are the cornerstone of your dream. A symbiotic relationship fosters success. Ensure everyone understands the bigger picture and empower them to lead. This necessitates comprehensive training, equipping your team with diverse skillsets.
As a serial entrepreneur, I’ve observed recurring themes. Maintaining morale is paramount, and the responsibility rests on the leader’s shoulders. Making tough decisions and propelling the team forward are crucial aspects of leadership.
Life tests us all, and the world watches to see if we succumb to pressure or persevere. Embrace continuous learning alongside your team. Forge strong connections – they become your family, regardless of company size. Investing time in communication is essential for identifying areas for improvement and fostering a thriving team environment.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
My foray into the world of mobile app development began in the nascent days of the Palm Pre when Apple and Android were still vying for dominance. Filled with an audacious vision, I embarked on this journey undeterred by the lack of experience or a dedicated team. As always, I embraced the “learn-as-you-go” approach, determined to navigate the uncharted territory.
My vision? A security app for mobile phones. After meticulously planning, I reached a pivotal point in 2009: develop or outsource it myself. Riding the wave of excitement and pushing my limits, I was struck by a life-altering event – a motorcycle accident.
The unexpected blow was particularly devastating as I was self-funding the project. With my ability to work compromised, my financial resources rapidly dwindled. This setback, a harsh blow to my ego, forced me to return to a traditional job. It wasn’t just the financial strain – the income significantly dipped, leaving me in significant debt.
Looking back, it feels like the universe intervened, whispering, “Not yet.” I relinquished the dream and returned to familiar ground at Home Depot. While the financial road to recovery was arduous, it ultimately led to stability.
This “pivot,” as I call it, was a significant shift, initially feeling like a step back. However, with hindsight, it has proven invaluable. Today, I approach life and business with a multifaceted perspective. My unique experience as a transgender individual offers a different lens to navigate the world, providing me with insights inaccessible to most. This realization has fueled my thirst for knowledge. I am a dedicated student, constantly expanding my horizons by devouring books on diverse subjects, from motivational tales and spiritual guidance to business strategies and economic trends.
The “backward” pivot at Home Depot ultimately paved the way for my growth, equipping me with the essential managerial skills needed to lead a team effectively. It was a necessary detour on my entrepreneurial journey, leading me to where I am today.
