We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jessica Calderon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jessica below.
Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Starting a business is definitely a risk. You invest all your time, effort, and sometimes life savings. To try to grow something that you are passionate about to help you reach financial freedom. There will be lots of doubts, what ifs. But at the end of the day, it’ll be worth it. It’s a job you’ll be working for yourself. An idea you are passionate about. I definitely took a risk. I knew I wanted to be a business owner. I knew I wanted to one day achieve financial freedom. I decided to take the risk and go for it. I didn’t want to be stuck with the “what if?” It certainly has been rough here and there, seen some losses, lost friendships, etc. But I wouldn’t change a thing of the way things went about for me. I’ve grown as a person. Have gained new friendships, new experiences.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Starting to build a social media audience is a lot of doable work. Keep fresh ideas in mind. Think about what others are into in regards to style and colors. The type of items that are “in fashion.” Doing giveaways did help as well to expose the business through out the community. Trying to record fun video trends online, having customers tag the page when they wear the items also helps. I have found that being consistent in regards to posting, interacting with other small businesses on social media does help as well.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Money does play a big role in the business. I had to get another job to be able to come up with the funds to fund my business. It does take time away from socializing with friends, important family events sometimes. It has its ups and downs. Some weeks there will be great earnings and others where there is probably $0 at the beginning. But keep trying. Keep working hard. Those extra long hours, extra work days will definitely help and you will see them pay off.
