Jessica , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?

Before starting my candle business, I spent time studying early learners. One thing I can say is nothing prepares you more than being hands on with children, and I do mean multiple for long periods of time! Although I learned a lot about how to academically challenge children during my studies, I also learned a lot about myself and how to have grace for not only myself but for young children. Preschool children are humans with emotions too you know! Learning to manage a classroom with young learners, I learned that I am the creator of the energy I see in my classroom, I am the creator of the atmosphere in my personal relationships too. If my attitude is bad, if I haven’t spent the much needed time with myself, the people around me don’t feel at their best either and no one unit can get anything done when no life is felt. Curating I Am The Vibe came from me learning myself, my energy and my ability to turn not only myself up but everybody up at the party!

Jessica , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I am Jessica Brown the curator and developer of I Am The Vibe. I curate candles that activate your mind, body and soul through scent and sound! Like many other candle companies, I do provide you with a sense of relaxation but what makes the brand stand out, is that I provide my customers with a sense of well-being through the multisensory experience. Our specialty sweet spot of scented candles, comes with a playlist link for our customers to indulge in while enjoying their candles. This is perfect for many candle lovers, as many times they subconsciously pair their candle with music already. Before you have to take the time out to pick a song or playlist, your candle already has you covered. With sounds from R&B, Gospel and Jazz music, you have the opportunity to focus your mind in on creating, taking care of yourself, taking care of your family, and your business with ease.

In the earlier years of my business, I found pairing my scents with sounds was important for me because I had the ability to create a vibe just for me. Not only are scents one of my favorite things but too is music! I couldn’t live without it. With my dad being a musician, he introduced us to some of the greatest artist in jazz music today. Being able to tell yourself your own story about where you think the artist was coming from through the sounds they put together and the title they came up with, I fell in love. Jazz, gospel and various R&B music are my genres of choice because of its ability to calm anxiety at times. Pairing this with scents, had to be my mission because after each burn I feel renewal and I wanted that for other curators and moms like myself too.

Have you ever had to pivot?

The most recent time I have had to pivot in business is here recently with me and my son! I have worked in preschool for years! when covid came, I decided that I would stay in and take an accounting job working from home. I worked for them a little over a year and this situation was just right for me and my one year old. Since times have change, I have decided to leave my home and go back to working preschool and continue to run my small business. Working from home gave me a lot more time to fill orders and provide more to my customers faster. Recently, with the new change I have had to pivot this, I have had to ensure that my time management skills are more intact more than ever before so that ultimately first, I am able to spend non negotiable time with him and my family and two that my customers are satisfied and able to activate their mind body and soul through my products and playlist.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

Becoming a small business owner you learn more and more about yourself as you move forward. You learn that you must celebrate your wins and know that you are accomplishing and knocking out goals in the time that is just divine for you. It became time for me to pivot my life style and become a mommy in 2022! Business started for me in 2019. It was normal for me to work a 9-5 and manage my business during and before my pregnancy but within 9 months, things in fact changed! My business strives through my ecommerce as well as through vending expos. Now that I have my son, passive income is so much more important for me and my family. Providing this for myself and my family has been apart of my resilience this year and having this ability too helps me to provide more my customers as well as fulfill my duties at home with ease. This is all apart of the I Am The Vibe story.
