Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessica Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jessica, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
At the age of five, I was in a near-fatal car accident that left visible scars on my face. As a result, I struggled with confidence and self-worth. As teen, I began to hide behind good behavior and perform in ways that would result in positive attention so I wouldn’t be seen as flawed. I decided to take control of my own narrative. 70% of teen girls today don’t feel like they are good enough compared to their peers and I’m on a mission to help them elevate their confidence, communication, and connection so that they can make a positive impact in their communities and pursue a life of purpose. As a Speaker and Coach, I speak with passion, guiding audiences and my clients to effectively identify, strengthen and increase their vision to new heights.
I have a natural gift for making meaningful connections and an insatiable appetite for helping others maximize their potential. I’ve spent my career working as a leader in Human Resources and I’m also a veteran of the United States Army. I attribute my level of resilience to overcoming physical and mental challenges I endured while serving. As a result of my past struggles, I’m able to empower, equip and help others elevate their mindset to realize their worth.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My unique journey from personal adversity to self-empowerment is why I felt it important to share my story along with the tools that helped me overcome my challenges. I spent so many years betraying myself and denying my culture to fit in as a teen and young adulthood. My firsthand experience with overcoming physical and emotional scars has shaped me into the resilient and passionate woman that I am today. As someone who benefitted from mentorship and has a natural gift of communicating and connecting with people, being a Speaker and Coach was a natural next step. I don’t just speak about confidence and self-worth, I live it. My military background has instilled in me an unparalleled level of resilience, which I use to inspire and equip others. My ability to connect with audiences on a deep, personal level, coupled with my commitment to helping others realize their inherent value is the asset I bring to those seeking to elevate their confidence, communication, and connection.
In order to help others, I wrote “How To Find Meaning In Your SCARS” which is an autobiographical affirmation journal for teens that chronicles excerpts from my life and the immense challenges I faced. The journal is a collection of poignant short stories that detail my journey from insecurity and low self-worth to a life of empowerment and self-love, proving that even the deepest scars can be transformed into a source of strength and inspiration.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
So many lessons I’ve had to unlearn on this journey! One lesson I learned is that comparison is the thief of joy! As a result of feeling like I was somehow ‘damaged’ because of my physical scars and constantly being asked “what happened” to my face, I often compared myself to others and even took on certain characteristics and behaviors that I thought would elicit positive attention to be seen as ‘good enough’. I had to unlearn that my value was based on external looks and good works and learn that my very presence is valuable just as I am. Period. I now embrace that I am perfectly imperfect and that there is no one else like me! Everyone else is already taken.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
After leaving home to join the Army at the age of 18, I was deployed six months later directly into a conflict in the Middle East. While on another deployment, pipe bombs were thrown into our sleeping quarters, and I recall writing my mom a letter the next day saying good-bye because I was not sure that I would make it back home. That experience changed me and my perspective as a young woman. It taught me that my life could change in an instant and that should never be taken for granted.
