Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?

My point of view on being successful in any aspect of life, but especially in business is to first do your research. Discover your “WHY” and what success looks like to you. It’s so important to take the time to really learn the ins and outs of the career path you have chosen. To learn what’s required, possible pitfalls, the success of others, and if what you have chosen is not only something that you are willing to do but is something that you enjoy doing. The whole point of creating whether it be a business or if you’re just trying to create a life you love is to do something that makes your heart sing. The next step to creating your own success is to plan. When you have a personalized guide for yourself there is no need to fear the unknown. The plan has removed the anxiety around everything so that the “JUMP” or “LEAP” is reduced to just being the logical next step. Finally, you need to do the work. Doing the work separates the successful from the masses. I believe that success follows the work. So be patient, give yourself some grace, and trust the process.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?

My journey started at a time in my life when I was in a dark and sad place. I was very fortunate to have a corporate job where I was making more money than I had ever made in my entire life, but I was miserable. At the end of the day, it left me feeling completely drained, emotionally spent, and having absolutely nothing left for my family and myself. It was then I decided that I wanted to live a life I loved. Life is too short to be miserable. Through much self-reflection and healing, I remembered my love of fashion and creating looks and vibes. I also realized there were so many people that I knew and even people I didn’t that would always ask how I came up with my fits and what inspired my looks, and how they could too. That’s when Madame J was born. Madame J is the premier destination for affordable quality fashion. We are passionate about providing fashionable merchandise that has elegance and style. Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?

There were many books that have inspired me over the years but a couple of them that stands out would have to be Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover. This book taught me to manage my finances to be able to put myself in a position where I could comfortably and confidently change my career without financial fear. Also, the book You Are Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero. That book helped me regain my confidence in taking control of my life. Lastly, the book Business Boutique by Christy Wright helped me learn the steps needed to create and launch my own business.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?

After reading Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover I was so intrigued by the fact that there was a way to make your money work for you so that you can create more options in life for yourself. So, I first made the first step in the long journey of becoming debt free and creating a full household emergency fund, then I was able to cash flow the basic creation of my boutique. I also did a lot of research and YouTubing to find free ways of accomplishing different goals I had that could not be cash flowed at that time such as finding free marketing tools, how to create ads, and creating content. There is a lot of free information out there.
