Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessica Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jessica thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
Yes, a defining moment in my career took place after after a chain of personal unfortunate experiences. I realized in my corporate driven mad dash to being successful that it could not prepare for life’s epps and waves. Corporate life and healthy personal life couldn’t coexist. A lot of things happened during this shift that were beyond my control and as the matriarch of a large black open family remaining ahead, strong and steadfast is an expectation. We have to be the change. I remained composed but uneasy. One dramatic day I broke down and all I could do was literally stand still. After stepping away from work I slept and somehow saw a shared post on IG. Days later I zombied my way into a Yoga Teacher Training apocalypse. I went from never taking a class to completing an intense 200hr certification. I began teaching in home with a live DJ to stay active. This uplifted me and inspired the beginnings of Big Brown AZ which provides audio and yogic healing services for small events around our local community to now expanding services to surrounding areas. I used what skills I poured into corporate for my desired ventures. I had a lot of inspiration on my hands during the pandemic and YTT. I finally broke away and made time for what I wanted. In the stillness I learned growth through my trauma and the healing of Yoga and rediscovered my strength . As my practice, business principles and passion expand so does my healing and relationships they all must coexist. Its and honor to have a business where I can share these things with my family and community.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I was so used to living in survival mode that I couldn’t just let go. I worked hard and was proud to work good under stress. I thought I could beat the machine and had a strong “I’ve got it” complex. Perspective was a huge lesson. Thats no way to live and what I really needed to do was stand still, trust my process, and free myself from those expectations. I share my gifts happily now, I don’t compare myself or my business to others I don’t bask in regret. I take each lesson as a challenge to figure out a path that produces the greatest outcome for all. If something doesnt work out it simply isn’t for me. Instead of negative thoughts and patterns I let go of things that don’t serve me. Doing this I’ve made room for what I didn’t know I needed and the growth and freedom from expectations is a satisfying reward.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Self study and perseverance are key. Without analyzing myself and connecting this to my business my mission would be lost. You must do something you love or there will be little to no motivation to keep moving forward. I study every aspect of the business and dive deep into topics my attention is most drawn to. I attend professional workshops and even various yoga classes just to feel connected to the industry. I ask questions from experts and mentors. I’m very abstract and calculating in how I learn and apply knowledge. You must be creative in how you grow everyone’s path will not fit your destiny. Be yourself, learn yourself, follow your passions. Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish.
