We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jessica Bogs. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jessica below.
Jessica , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I never thought I would become a photographer, but here I am. A few years ago a friend of mine had started her journey to become a photographer and invited me to tag along to one of her sessions. I helped with posing the couples and families, after the session my friend said that we would make a great team. So I went and purchased my first camera, asked lots of questions and truly studied the camera and practiced a whole lot on family and friends. I truly enjoy meeting new people and making new friends. So this was right up my alley. Once I learned fully my starter camera, I decided to take a leap and purchase my first Mirrorless camera, and man oh man, was that a game changer! I truly fell more in love with photography!! I think that knowing what I know now, I would have started with a mirrorless! Some skills that are most essential for photography is that you have to truly enjoy people! You have to enjoy hearing their stories and be open to their vision as well as yours. I don’t think I would consider myself having obstacles per se, but more so that I didn’t learn as fast as others who started this career as a younger age.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Jessica Bogs, owner and photographer, of Bloom with Grace Photography by Jess. I am a wife and mother of three boys! So needless to say I am quite busy, but I live for it! I started capturing memories and special moments for others about 3 years ago, when a friend of mine asked me to tag along on a photo session and from that day I fell in love! I fell in love with the aspect of capturing moments in time, and getting to know others! I love being creative and coming up with new ideas to capture special moments. I fell in love with not only gaining clients but also friends!
Types of services would be family, maternity, fresh 48, lifestyle newborn, senior, bridals, engagements, milestones, weddings, and anything in between. I am always down for creativity shoots, or anything out of the box.
I feel like in the photography world it should always be community over competition. So I feel like I pride myself on asking questions from the more experienced and helping the ones who are just starting. Because honestly everyone always has their first day, one person may have had their first day 5 years ago, and another person’s first day may be tomorrow.
I would love for my clients and potential future clients to know that no matter what I would be happy to work with you for any occasion and would be happy to work with you and what ever budget you have. I know that sometimes pictures are the only memories you can have.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect for me would be when a client reaches out and wants portraits but is unsure of the ideas and styles or location, and I come up with something that I feel would be perfect for them and the vision comes to life not only for me but for them. I love when after sending the gallery to them they reach out and tell me how much they turned out better than they expected!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I feel the most effective way that I have been able to grow clientele is by word of mouth. Constantly being in contact with my past clients whom I now consider friends and they have shared social media posts and tagged my page or me personally and it helps bring in new clients/friends!
