We recently connected with Jessica Berglin and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents did a lot right, but I think what they modeled most importantly was to pursue creativity. My dad was a high school art teacher in the 1970s/early 80s before my brother and I were born. And my mom was always sewing her own clothes, so I grew up trying my hand at nearly every type of outlet for self-expression. When I was in grade school, I remember going to my first art class with my dad at the local art center. It was a printmaking class, and I remember being excited because that was one of the mediums dad focused on in art school.
And just as excitedly, I remember learning to sew and modify clothes alongside my mom. She would take me to the fabric store, where we would sift through the sewing patterns and then find just the right fabric to make the pattern come alive. Because I wore a uniform/dress code to school throughout my young life, I didn’t really know what was considered “in style” or “cool” as far as clothes were concerned. But I distinctly remember the outfits/accessories that made me feel the most “me,” and they were absolutely the ones that she made or we made together.
Fast forward to present day. I thrifted this gorgeous, brightly colored botanical bird drapery fabric on one of my sourcing adventures. There was yards of it. I held onto it for years, not knowing what I wanted to do with it but knowing that it needed to be something special. And then it hit me: I wanted to make a pair of pants with my mom. So last year when I was visiting my parents for Christmas, I brought my beloved material and a pattern for wide leg pants and we toiled at the sewing machine for two days straight. I now wear them all the time and feel the most “me”.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the self-proclaimed Candlemaker and Cocktail Shaker behind Flicker & Fizz, which creates spirited candle and cocktail pairings, hand-poured in carefully curated vintage glassware. Each set includes a matching pair of glasses—one filled with a 100% soy wax candle, the other waiting to be filled with a cocktail inspired by the candle’s scent. Once the candle has burned away, what remains is a beautifully coordinated set of vintage glassware, ready to adorn a bar cart or kitchen shelf.
My creative process begins with the glassware itself—sourced secondhand, each piece carries a unique history. Its style, color, and era serve as my inspiration, guiding the candle scent and cocktail pairing I craft for it. I then group complementary pieces into seasonal collections, transforming each set into a multi-sensory experience that blends sight, scent, and taste. To me, the magic of Flicker & Fizz lies in this intentional pairing: hand-picked vintage glassware, a carefully blended candle fragrance, and a hand-crafted cocktail recipe designed to enhance the experience while the candle flickers.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
It sounds overly simplistic, but Buy Local. Support local businesses whenever possible (and it’s nearly always possible!)

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal with a repurposing/vintage business is for people to realize that there are so many beautiful things that already exist in this world. Sometimes all it takes is for someone to reenvision what those things are.
