Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessica Auld. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jessica, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
The kindest thing anyone has ever done for me is giving me a chance. It’s really hard to get a shot at dancing in a small community and one of my close friends saw that I was struggling to keep counts and get get the beat. She took a chance on me and spent a lot of time mentoring me on how to get better. I took a chance on myself when I couldn’t get a job teaching social and emotional trauma informed care to adults and children and started my own non profit being able to teach others the benefits of emotional health and physical health.
The kindest thing that anyone has ever done for me is told me how much of a difference I have made in the lives of others.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Jessica Auld. I went to school for emergency management and business continuity- basically how to keep things running through terrorist’s attacks, school shootings, earthquakes etc. After I graduated and was offered a job with FEMA, I had to decline because the traveling was too much. I have a now 10 year old son. During this time, I struggled with my weight and mental health and really didn’t know how to get help especially since I didn’t see representation of other black women in the fitness/mental health industry. So, I decided to be that person for others and create a safe place for women to be able to dance and enjoy themselves no matter their backgrounds. I provide a lot of difference services from lifecoaching, yoga, mindfulness, trauma care, reiki, dance classes and especially help in womens health. I help women get connected to themselves and then connected to the resources that they need to propel their business and mindset forward. Basically, I am known for being people’s “hype person.” Which is a proud title for me showing people they can do what they thought they never would be able to!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the fact of knowing it all and not needing help. All my life, I have solved my own problems and built my own table. No matter how certified or how much school life cannot prepare you for owning a business right away. I have had to learn to build a community and unity – we go further together with everyone using their special talents and others making room for them to showoff. The art of delegation and trust.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I absolutely would choose my same profession. I choose it everyday. I love what I get to do and I love the results of my work. Serving my community and people is my passion.
