We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Glosson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
When I started blogging, I did so as a creative outlet from my otherwise clinical full time job in healthcare. I had been following bigger bloggers on Instagram for several years and admired the work and dedication they put into their content. I put the same effort into my blog and social media channels and researched how to apply for affiliate link programs, partner with brands to create content, and establish long term collaborations. It was so exciting when I got my first payout from the RewardStyle platform as it indicated people truly valued the fashion related pieces I shared enough to try them for themselves!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have a full time job in healthcare but I’ve always fostered a love of fashion, shopping and (of course!) getting a good deal. I created my blog and social media accounts as a creative outlet to expand on these interests and I love how I’ve been able to uniquely tie them into the theme of traveling (something I adore doing!) and the practice of sustainability. By showing thrifted fashion pieces, patterning with more eco-friendly clothing companies, and sharing tips with followers on how to stay on trend while saving money and the planet, I’ve created a space that I’m extremely proud of!
Have you ever had to pivot?
In regards to my social media presence, I was faced with a major pivot point when my original Instagram account, which I had invested lots of time and effort into, was randomly, and without appropriate cause, flagged and deleted by Instagram. This was a challenging time, because it required me to start completely from scratch and make a new account. But it was also an exciting time to make changes, to learn from my experiences with the original account, and to rebrand in ways that I was interested in.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Making the extra effort to support local businesses and artists is essential! Taking the time to leave reviews, like and share posts on social media, and give word of mouth recommendations are all free but powerful ways to support this community.
