We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jesse Sieff. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jesse below.
Hi Jesse, thanks for joining us today. Too often the media represents innovation as something magical that only high-flying tech billionaires and upstarts engage in – but the truth is almost every business owner has to regularly innovate in small and big ways in order for their businesses to survive and thrive. Can you share a story that highlights something innovative you’ve done over the course of your career?
The most innovative thing I’ve done in my career is transform a passion for music and art into a thriving business.
During my enlistment in the Marine Corps, my primary role was to serve as a musician and perform my instrument (percussion) in an elite ensemble that toured the globe. Additionally, with an amateur knowledge of videography and editing, I was trusted to lead the office of public affairs and represent my unit at Marine Barracks Washington, D.C to the public globally.
Taking this role seriously, I assumed responsibility for planing, executing, and publishing numerous promotional videos, features, and social media campaigns for the Marine Corps. This also required updating many of the standard processes and procedures this involved.
Over the course of three years, our campaigns ended up reaching over 5 million people and tripled the unit’s social media following. Accomplish this often implied an overwhelming amount of work on my end with very few resources, time, and direction for my assignments, but I prioritized quality
Recognizing that my skill sets, experience, and work ethic would be greatly valued in the professional realm of business, I made the difficult decision to transition out of the military in 2020 to start my own video strategy and production company, Sieff Studios.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has simply been delivering a product they are legitimately excited to share with others.
In the media production and creative services industry, we must earn our reputations by building impressive portfolios and case studies. The industry is competitive, we hold a unique advantage in that our products serve a dual-function as marketing materials.
So, there is inherently an incentive to produce high quality work because that will not only satisfy your customer and generate a positive review, but will likely become a lasting impression for their entire network.
In this way, I have made a point to create products that sell themselves and generate new business.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the most profound lesson I had to un-learn was shifting from a rate-based pricing model to a results-based model.
In other-words, I realized that trading time for money was unscalable and systematically penalized efficiency.
I grew up in Pittsburgh, working as a laborer in many different jobs: (ex: Landscaper, roofer, construction contractor, snow plow operator, music teacher, etc….) all job that pay by the hour.
After studying a number of different courses, podcasts, and books, I eventually came to the realization that value-based pricing was more sustainable, profitable, and logical: essentially, redefining my idea “success” to value time and create incentives to deliver exceptional value quickly.
