We were lucky to catch up with Jesse Procaccini recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jesse, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When I was 12 years old my grandmother gave a baby grand piano to my parents that had been in our family since the early 1900’s. I was obsessed with it. I liked banging/pressing on the keys and hearing the different sounds that came from them. Soon I started putting the different sounds together into interesting, mostly bad sounding music. My mother made me learn violin and began piano lessons… to be honest, I hated both BUT I learned that the “sounds” were actually notes and that the notes together created chords. It all started there and I realized I could create my own chord progressions which led to creating actual songs. Then came the lyrics or poems, again started bad but developed over the years because I kept trying. The spark was just curiosity at the start but developed into a passion and obsession. I knew no matter where I ended up and what I did in life music would be a part of the journey. That same piano that had been in my family for over a century is the same piano sitting in my home studio today.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The Last Second Save has been my music outlet for many years. It started in 2011 when I moved from New Jersey to Maryland. I wanted to make music that people could connect to, especially lyrically. Inspired by the music I grew up with, early 2000’s punk/emo, I believe my music will bring people that nostalgic feeling. I write the music and lyrics but I have a great team behind me for playing out live. We put on an energetic show and people have told me that they really connect with the words of the songs.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The best thing that anyone can do to support local artists is come out to the shows and be a part of the experience. It’s so much fun having people in the crowd who connect to your music in a meaningful way. Stream and share the music if you like it, support the local scene and reach out through social media. Also, I’ve found that environments where artists create friendships through collaborations and show sharing has really helped the scene a lot.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding things to me have been connecting with fans. I’ve received many messages from people online that have found myself meaningful to them in some way. Meeting fans at shows that love my music has been amazing. The community that we’ve built behind The Last Second Save has really made everything worth it.
