We were lucky to catch up with Jesse Kovack recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jesse, thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
A few years ago I decided I was going to really learn the craft, study the forefathers that came before me. So I started listening to Hip Hop from 1985, I’d listen and read along all the lyrics to each album. Trying my best to understand and absorb as much knowledge, culture and rhyming schemes as possible. As of today I’m finishing up the year 1997, I’m about 40 albums deep.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jesse Kovack. I go by Nauseous, I’m a rapper from Detroit Michigan. I fell in love with music at very young age I’d say 15, a good friend of mine showed me the band Blink 182 and ever since that day I knew I wanted to be a musician. I was a vocalist in multiple bands until one day I challenged myself to see if I could rap.
I made my first project “Humanity In Me” in 2017 and I haven’t stopped rapping since. My passion grew with the genre and pushed myself to be a better lyricist.
I’m constantly doing my homework and going back to study all the hip hop that came before me. I think it’s important to know your history and understand the foundation of what hip hop was build on and how it evolves.
I think what set me apart from the typical rapper is my years of experience playing in other genres of music and studying the roots of hip hop.
I take pride in my unrelenting desire to stay authentic, my admiration for the craft and my ability to rock a crowd.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
One of the most rewarding aspects of being an artist is writing and recording the music itself. Creating and crafting a song from the ground up seeing your hard work come into fruition.
The live aspect of performing is incredibly satisfying, showcasing these handcrafted songs you spend hours on end to perfect.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My current mission driving me is to be self sustainable, take care of my team and family and have a supportive fanbase.
