Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jesse Inglima. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jesse, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
The first dollar I earned as a musician was from playing my first gig with my band, Everyday Dogs, on February 17th, 2018. We played a show at a record store called His Rock Music with a couple of other bands, and the audience was mostly our friends and family. I think we played 5 songs at the most, almost all of them covers and one original song that we had been working on. We didn’t exactly make a lot of money that night, but getting that first payout was huge in understanding our value as musicians. It was our first step in a long journey of making our dream of being full-time musicians and songwriters a reality.
Jesse, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jesse Inglima, and I am the lead guitarist for Everyday Dogs. The other members are Julian Inglima (lead vocals/rhythm guitarist), Tyler Griffith (Bassist), and Jack Gregg (Drummer).
Everyday Dogs are the skateboarding, Capri-Sun drinking, surfer-punk rockers of Atlanta. The boys in the band show up to every gig ready to party hard and play even harder. With a slew of musical influences ranging from garage-rock heroes The Strokes and The Kooks to newer punk legends like Skeggs and Dune Rats, every song puts loud drums, big guitar solos, and powerful vocals front and center. Everyday Dogs are a reminder that rock ‘n’ roll can be (and should be) a lot of fun.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
This past year, we invested a lot of our time and energy as a band in building up our social media presence, with an emphasis on TikTok on Instagram. The entirety of the music industry has shifted its gaze toward TikTok as the primary means of discovering new music. For better or worse, you cannot be a successful musician today without social media, and while we hadn’t necessarily ignored it in the past per se, we hadn’t dedicated as much effort into growing it as we should have. So we went to work in the content creation sphere, making short-length videos that were funny, engaging, and enticing enough for people to follow us and listen to our music. We still have a long way to go, but I think we are on the right track.
The biggest piece of advice for social media growth is consistency. Consistency not only helps from an algorithmic perspective, but from a creative standpoint it gives you more opportunities to find our what does and doesn’t work and really hone your craft in creating the right content for the right audience.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
There are a lot of highs and lows when it comes to pursuing a career in music, or any creative field for that matter. But being able to pursue what you love makes it all worth it. We’ve been fortunate enough to have played over 100 shows at this point and have recorded and released over 20 songs. Getting to not only play music, but play songs that we’ve written, is a privilege, and we’re incredibly grateful to have that opportunity.
