Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jesse Hughes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jesse thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve always enjoyed entertaining people. I was the class clown who wanted the attention, but only as a way to help people smile and have some fun. I gravitated towards movies at a young age. I’d watch Jurassic Park every weekend and be in awe at seeing the dinosaurs come to life, then terrified when the humans are on the run. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do since then.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
After High School I joined the military. After serving for 12 years I moved to LA to learn filmmaking and pursue this as my life goal. I was in LA for 7 years where I went to the LA Film School and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. I spent the rest of the time working on any project I could find and learned from every single set I was on. Before I left I produced one of my own projects called “Pieces We Leave Behind” with some friends. It’s available now on Amazon and on Tubi (if ya watch it let me know what you think.). I have moved back to Indiana to make my films out here now. I want to keep them small and personable on the creative side, but then specific for my audience to get a good story out of each of them as I go.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I’ve never been worried about becoming a celebrity or being talked about for my work. But I will say I love talking to people about my projects I’ve done. I know what I was trying to accomplish on set and in post. But assessing what my audience got out of every frame shot is so interesting to me. Every project I do is an opportunity to learn and be better for the next one.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I shared it earlier but going from the military to film production was interesting. I miss the military sometimes but I was at a point where I wanted to pursue a passion as opposed to a paycheck. Been poor ever since, but every single small success thusfar has meant so much more because it’s me doing what I know I can do and not just what needs to be done.
