We recently connected with Jess Iturzaeta and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jess, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
Helping my clients navigate the confusing world of beauty is what lights me up. I have a lot of busy moms as clients and they aren’t looking to spend hours in the bathroom getting ready but they want results in their skincare routine. Being able to help treat their skin and customize a routine for them really takes the guess work out of it and lessen the confusion. My latest client I helped was amazed that for the first time she is actually sticking to her routine because of how seeing results has motivated her to do so. After being an esthetician for 20 years and treating so many different skin types we can give our clients results and the confidence they are looking for.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started in the cosmetics industry while going to college and fell in love with beauty, specifically treating the skin. So much so that I went straight to esthetician school after graduating. From there I have worked in every corner of the industry! From the treatment room, spas, med spas and resort spas to being an educator teaching other spa professionals how to perform treatments and treat the skin. Because of this experience I knew I wanted to create my own brand based on the needs I saw in the treatment room. I wanted to create products the clients actually needed to improve the skin and deliver the most results. After becoming a mom I wanted to clean up the chemicals in my life and I knew my line needed to be clean, natural and still deliver results. Keeping a routine simple was also important to me, it doesn’t need to be complicated to glow. Delivering customized education sets us apart from the rest of the brands, I have seen all skin types and we know how to help all skin! I am most proud of thinking outside of the box in this way when it comes to developing new products and especially proud of my new podcast, Learning to Glow. I love incorporating education about health and wellness as it is a key component to healthy skin.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I used to be afraid to put myself out there. I felt like I had to look a certain way or speak perfectly when I wrote a blog or posted a video. That perfection held me back longer than I would like to admit. I had to learn the hard way that having a perfectionist attitude was another way of not showing up and not noble at all. I show up even when I don’t feel like I am looking the part, I had to remember I am here to serve my clients not impress people.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I have had a long career in the business and when I became a mom I knew I needed to pivot. During my educator and sales days I would travel non-stop. I worked so much and so hard that I was sick a lot. Stress did a number on me. Even though I loved what I did and the friends I made, I knew stepping into my role as a founder was where I wanted to go. It has its challenges but its what feels best to me.
