Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jess Clark Garcia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jess , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I’m very happy to say that I’ve worked on many meaningful projects throughout my career. To date, I’d say my first EP “Roses” remains the most special. It came at a time in my life where I was really starting to come into my own as an artist, and was ready to take the reins when it came to my ideas and creativity. I wrote every song myself and they each came from a very personal, special place to me. I was ready to take my own creative direction with the entire project, including the visuals. It was just really freeing and I’ll always be really grateful that I had the opportunity to put out a body of work that I’m so proud of.

Jess , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been singing and acting since I was a little girl, and I always knew that I wanted to pursue both of those things. As I got older, I involved myself with anything that would allow me to perform and be on a stage. My journey navigating through the music industry has been an incredibly rewarding, and tough one. After being a part of two different girl groups, being managed by different people and having my fair share of ups and downs in the very beginning, I had the amazing opportunity to audition for American Idol. I ended up making it through to Hollywood and was fortunate enough to have made the Top 50 on Season 15. It was such a crazy experience and one that really showed me what I’m capable of, as far as vocal endurance and stamina. After the show, I really started to think about who I wanted to be as a solo artist, and I started writing with some of the most talented songwriters in the business. I’ve had multiple song placements for TV and film, and that’s also been one of the coolest things I’ve experienced during my journey. I remember hearing a song that I co-wrote and performed on a movie on Netflix, and it was such a trip! Since then, I’ve continued to learn more about who I am not just as an artist, but as a person, and as a result of that, I feel as though I’ve been able to put out quality music that truly represents who I am. I currently have an EP, and three singles on all streaming platforms. I’m so proud of each one of them and I’m hoping to put out an album next.
Aside from my music, one of the things I’m most proud of is my connection to my fans and the people who follow me. I’ve been so blessed to have a small, but mighty, group of individuals who have followed my career for the last 10 years or so. I can honestly say that they have become my friends, and I love the fact that social media has allowed me to nurture these relationships in a way that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. In large part due to this, I’ve decided to finally work on a new project that I’ve wanted to for such a long time. I am creating a podcast that is set to launch in 2024, called The Mess. I have always felt a fierce love and loyalty to my followers, and I love nothing more than to connect with them on a personal level. The podcast will focus on story times, personal discovery, possibly the occasional giving of advice, and interviews with fellow artists and influencers. I truly feel like the best way to help and connect with others is through personal experiences and vulnerability, and I couldn’t be more excited for this new chapter of my career.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I think a huge thing young artists hear is “it’s all about who you know”. I learned very quickly that this is not always the case. I am so grateful for every relationship and connection I’ve made throughout my career, but there is no doubt that your success and your happiness lies in your hands, and your hands alone. I think I realized early on, through different experiences, that ultimately, it was going to be up to me to make things happen for myself and it was my responsibility to take initiative and get myself in the rooms I wanted to be in. People may help you along the way, but you always have to have your own back first.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Like I touched on before, my favorite thing to do is connect with people. If my story, my experiences, my art, or my opinion can help someone with what they are going through, or can touch someone in a way that they’re in need of at the time – I’m happy. I’m very proud to be in the place I am now. I grew up as the little girl who wanted nothing more to be famous. For a long time, fame was something that really appealed to me. Ofcourse, that little girl still lives in me somewhere and it always feels great to be recognized for the art that I create, but I’m happy to say that it’s definitely not the most important thing to me. I want to create because I love to create. I want to do things that make me happy, and if those things make other people happy too, even better.
