We were lucky to catch up with Jess Blevins Curtis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jess, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
J-Bird Digital Design’s mission is to empower small businesses to thrive, making a meaningful impact in the digital realm while still maintaining integrity and authenticity. By giving consultation and then recommendations, we ensure that each business or brand receives the services and tailored strategies they deserve, ultimately driving their success.
One story that illustrates why this difference matters involves a small artisan business we worked with. They had a limited budget and a vision for expanding their online presence but were unsure where to start. By conducting a series of detailed consultations, we identified their primary goals and broke the project into phases. Initially, we focused on creating a Google My Business profile and a simple, effective landing page to establish their online presence. As their business grew and their budget allowed, we helped them develop a comprehensive e-commerce site with a seamless checkout experience.
By being thoughtful and collaborative, this approach not only eased their financial burden but also allowed them to grow at a sustainable pace. It’s this dedication to nurturing potential and fostering growth that sets J-Bird apart from the industry standard.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My journey into the digital marketing industry began with a deep-seated fascination for technology and storytelling. Early on, I realized that digital platforms offered unparalleled opportunities for creativity and connection. After gaining experience in various marketing roles and working with a diverse range of businesses, I recognized a common struggle among the underdogs – the makers, entrepreneurs and small businesses – had limited resources when it came to being strategic with their digital assets. This realization sparked the creation of J-Bird!
At J-Bird, a one woman business supported by an amazing web of creative contractors, we’re able to tailer our services through consultation that better allows small businesses thrive. Our services include web development, Google My Business setup and optimization, organic SEO, eCommerce, and WordPress. We take pride in understanding each client’s unique needs, budget, and goals, allowing us to deliver personalized recommendations and phased strategies that are both effective and sustainable.
At J-Bird, our mission is to empower small businesses to thrive in the digital marketing realm. We are dedicated to fostering growth and nurturing potential with integrity and authenticity. We believe in more than just doing business; we believe in building lasting relationships and making a meaningful impact.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Going above and beyond for my clients, no matter where they’re at in their business. From an idea, to a seed, to a starter plant, to fully grown – J-Bird nurture’s them every step of the way. This leads to direct referrals and more retainer based clients rather than project based.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Samantha Lane of Origami Day has been a game changer for my time management skills, and being able to grow at a sustainable pace. She’s one of many mentors along the way, but I couldn’t recommend her more!
