Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jesamyn Angelica. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jesamyn, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
My life took a monumental turn when I decided that it was time to begin Sisterhood of the Moon, a Goddess community focused on connection, empowerment, and authenticity. This decision wasn’t made on a whim or based in a desire for power; it was a calling that I had been hearing for a long time, arising from deep within my soul. I knew, though, that following that calling meant taking a monumental risk, leaving behind the security and comfort of my established life and heading out into the wild unknown.
Before making this tremendous shift, I was leading a life that, from a distance, probably looked quite stable and rather “normal” by Northern California standards: I had a career in the New York publishing industry, a vibrant social group, and a ritual circle I served weekly. My priestess work was primarily “under the radar” during this time, and I often took comfort in the mostly hidden nature of my spiritual path.
However, the pull to serve the Goddess and create a circle in which women could come together to connect with one another and with the Goddess grew stronger and stronger, and there came a moment when I could no longer ignore this charge. This turning point came during a ceremony at the Temple of Goddess Spirituality outside of Las Vegas, NV. As I gazed into the eyes of a statue of the Egyptian Goddess Sekhmet during a group nighttime fire ritual, the message was clear: it was time to step out on my own and bring forth my Vision, no matter how terrifying that felt.
Leaving the group where I was practicing was incredibly difficult—although it had turned into an emotionally unhealthy place, many of the people there felt like they were my family. There was a sense of huge loss and a year of deep grieving before I began visioning the foundation for Sisterhood of the Moon, pouring my heart into my hopes and dreams.
As I considered taking the risk of beginning our Sisterhood, there arose feelings of unworthiness and worries about the possibility of failure: Would anyone come? Did I know enough? Who was *I* to start a circle? Would I be able to not only build, but sustain, a thriving and healthy community?
The risk, however, turned out to be well worth all of the struggles and the self-doubts. Now approaching fifteen years in, Sisterhood of the Moon has blossomed into a flourishing tradition offering support, connection, and spiritual growth to all those who seek it.
The function of a High Priestess is incredibly rewarding, but it also comes with immense responsibility. Creating meaningful ritual, overseeing the intricate details of a tradition, and offering support to those in need requires unwavering effort, steadfast dedication, careful planning, and deep emotional investment. No matter what this looks like from outside, it is not a glamorous position—it is a vocation that demands dedication, service, and a boundless commitment to vulnerable, open-hearted learning and to loving compassion for others.
Following my heart and dedicating myself to the role of a full-time High Priestess was a transformative journey that still brings me immense purpose and joy. It was a significant risk that has led me to a life rich with meaning and satisfaction; a reminder that true growth is, more often than not, waiting just outside of our comfort zones.

Jesamyn, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello fellow Seekers! I’m Lady Jesamyn Angelica, a High Priestess, Oracle, Ritualist, and Muse. All titles aside, I am super passionate about fostering sisterhood, following the cycles of the Moon, and building strong, supportive community that lasts.
My journey with the Goddess began in rural New England at the tender age of 13. A serendipitous encounter with a book on witchcraft sparked a fire within me, and I haven’t looked back since.
For decades, I’ve delved into the mysteries of the Moon, honing my skills in ritual design, leadership, and communication. I’ve also walked the path of a solitary practitioner and participated in various groups, each experience enriching my understanding of the ingredients necessary for collaborative magick and healthy community.
In 2010, a powerful calling led me to found Sisterhood of the Moon, which has blossomed into a matriarchal Goddess Tradition gathering in-person in the San Francisco Bay Area and online worldwide. Our in-person Women’s Lunar Rites circle welcomes women of all backgrounds and experience levels to join us in honoring the lunar cycles in sacred ceremony and, on the internet, The Women’s Mystery School of Magick & Empowerment is a guided initiatory pathway into self-love and self-empowerment.
Our rituals are a feast for the senses, filled with beauty, intention, and joy. We believe in creating sacred spaces where we can collectively embrace self-empowerment and authenticity, connecting deeply with one another, and also with something much bigger than we are as individuals.
But it takes more than good vibes to make a community thrive. As High Priestess, I wear many crowns: from ritual leader and teacher to midwife and mentor. I’m here to witness your growth, to offer guidance, and help you tap into your own inner power.
My own life is a testament to the transformative power of this path. Everything I do is infused with magick, and I’m here to share this journey with you.
My first book with Llewellyn Worldwide, “Tune Into the Moon: Connecting with the Cosmic Tides of Magick, Mystery, and Healing” is coming soon!
Let’s create magick together!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by a powerful threefold mission: creating connection, creating beauty, and creating community.
These elements are intentionally woven into the fabric of Sisterhood of the Moon. I believe that fostering a sense of belonging, empathy, and support amongst people—particularly women—is vital for the health of our world. Gathering together in sacred circle to honor the Goddess, the lunar rhythms, and the changing of the seasons reminds us of our inherent interconnectedness, the richness of our shared experiences, and our essential place in the tapestry of this life.
Beauty is another cornerstone of our tradition. When we immerse ourselves in beauty, both physically and spiritually, we are uplifted and inspired. I strive to support this intention through our rituals by creating altars that reflect the purpose of our gatherings, curating harmonious energies through aligning the elements of the space with the flow of the ceremony.
Ultimately, my heart’s desire is to cultivate a community and a tradition that is greater than the sum of its parts, a sacred and welcoming space where people feel secure and supported in evolving, changing, and reaching their fullest potential, both individually and collectively. This entails creating and nurturing a container where people are inspired to empower themselves and one another by working both internally and externally to make a positive difference in the world.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
As a High Priestess, I am privileged to observe firsthand the potent power of connection. We come together as individuals, only to discover a shared bond rooted in our beliefs, desires, and collective calling to make the world a better place for all beings. Facilitating the formation of these bonds and watching them deepen fills me with a profound sense of joy and interconnectedness.
Perhaps the most rewarding aspect, however, is witnessing—and sometimes midwifing—the personal transformation of our community members. While we provide a sacred space for people to explore their spirituality, embrace their authenticity, and discover their true potential, ultimately, change can only be made by the individual. Witnessing this growth, this “upward spiral path,” is truly fulfilling.
Being a High Priestess is not without its challenges, requiring significant responsibility and a lifelong commitment to learning. Yet, the rewards far outweigh any difficulties. It is one of the greatest honors of my life to serve others on their journeys of personal change and self-discovery. This role is not merely something I do, it is wholeheartedly who I am. Every aspect of my life is intertwined with my service as a High Priestess. The magick I nurture extends far beyond the ritual circle, because ultimately, my life is my magick.
