Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jervon Kyles. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jervon, thanks for joining us today. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your career and how did you resolve those issues?
Some of the most unexpected problems I’ve faced was learning how to market my music on my own without having to use an outside source. Reason being, I had to teach myself how to create, run, and present specific ads to specific cultural backgrounds, states, age groups, etc. Another difficult problem was learning how to analyze the insights so I could understand individuals’ true personal interests and ones that I have to offer. Also, I had to get comfortable with being in the studio with other artists. I’d usually work alone because I was always in my studio by myself. Working with other artists was completely outside of my comfort zone. It was uncomfortable for me at first, but with time I grew accustomed to it.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jervon Kyles. I was born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Clayton County, Georgia. I became interested in music when I was 19, as a freshman in college at Morehouse University. I had a friend, August, who went to Kennesaw State and did music. He was always making beats when I went to visit him. This lead him to ask me and my other friend, Jack, to collaborate on a song. We both agreed and that was the start to my music career. Soon after, I found myself making 2-3 songs a day. Eventually, I bought my own equipment so that I could make music whenever I felt like it. I would wake up and do music, get off work and do music… music became a hobby but also an outlet for me. As an artist/songwriter, I feel like my work ethic and consistency is what separates me from other artists. I am most proud of my ‘Afterhours’ series. I started creating the series in 2020. It’s a clear representation of myself to the core. I’m the epitome of a chill, laid-back dude and I love a vibe. I have a sequel that’ll drop on November 4th, called “Afterhours 2.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist would have to be the feedback that I receive on my songs, especially after waiting a year or two to release it. I pride myself on taking my time in releasing my music when it feels right. I tend to be a perfectionist and pay great attention to detail. When I see that people know the words to my songs and hear that my music makes feel good mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually, that has to be the best feeling besides creating it.

Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
My mission with my music is always move them when they listen to it. For example, in many of my songs, I rap about vacationing and simply enjoying life. Many individuals do not have the luxury or means to live life to the fullest. Therefore, I want them to be able to hear to my music and feel like they’re experiencing exactly what I am. I never want to come across as bragging or arrogant because I want you to live the experience with me. Simply making a toast to the good life, regardless of the situation. I also have the goal to be a positive figure/role model for African American children, especially those of low socioeconomic statuses and facing adversity. It’s important to me that I help them reach their goals regardless of their circumstances by teaching them grit, to never give up, and to make something from nothing if need be.
