We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jerry Ta. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jerry below.
Jerry, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was one of the most important lessons you learned in school? Why did that lesson stick with you?
It all started during my first spring semester of college, the high hopes and aspiring dreams to become an engineer came to an end. On the verge of failing my engineering intro class, almost losing my full ride scholarship to Ohio State, I knew I had to changes my plan fast but didn’t know to what. I asked so many friends, past teachers and even my parents on what I should do. In the end they all kind of said the same thing “try your best and it will work out.”. But knowing myself If i kept going I was going to lose everything. After doing some research and still trying to fit myself within the STEM space. I decided on architecture. This was easily one of the best and worst choices of my life. The field was an endless journey of sleepless nights and so much money spent on materials for models. But the freedom to create and explore making digital media drawings and photographing these model were priceless. Best part yet, this major was so subjective, it depended on my presentation skills to earn me the grade which I loved because I hated exams and studying for them. As my college career came to an end, another change of heart happened. I took the step into an internship and it was the complete 180 to what I had envisioned. So many restriction and limits on what I could design and help out on. This is where I decided to quit my internship and see what else was out there. I always thought I had an eye for creating digital media. I took it the seriously throughout studio by trying to take my model photos with my Sony Camera! But It made me take the leap to believe in myself and join my friend Sean to start Fluff Studio. While everyone was going into job interviews and apply to grad school. I was trying to plan how I can become a full time creative. It was a hard decision to not to try to apply to jobs and grad school but this taught me my biggest lesson. To always bet on myself and believe that anything is possible, it just takes some time!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For the past two years Fluff Studio and I have grown so much. More than I can ever imagine. The journey has been a wild roller coaster. But our goal stays the same throughout it. The goal is to provide creatives opportunities to express their creativity and find their niche within the digital media space. On the client side our mission is “where ideas takes flight”, it’s showcasing their brand through storytelling and creative visuals. For me personally creating and building Fluff Studio has become an opportunity of a lifetime. I’ve applied the things I’ve learned throughout my four years of architecture at Ohio State. From designing, to finding the right composition to pitching my next projects. Within the last two years, everything has been feeling like it’s been coming together. Though the journey may be long, this has been my biggest accomplishment. It has allowed me to meet so many people, find my unique visual style and continue to learn new things everyday.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
“Greatness comes with patience.” That has been my motto everyday throughout this creative journey. When starting out with Fluff Studio, the biggest regret I had with myself was being too harsh on my own work. Everyday, scrolling through social media, I found myself comparing more than using it as inspiration. Which lead me to making a lot of excuse of not having the gear or in a pristine sunset area for the right shot. The list went on and on. So one day, I finally just sat myself down and started setting a goal of breaking down these well made videos and seeing how I can apply them to my own style. This process took many months and is still ongoing now, but the relationship I have with creating now allows me to be much more creative than before.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Soccer has always been my go to sport. From growing up watching Manchester United with my grandpa to playing with friends, this sport allows me to make so many memories that will live on forever. As the dream of becoming a professional player came to an end, the idea of staying involved with the game by documenting these memories and historical moments came to mind. Which is why with the 2026 Fifa World Cup coming to the United States the ultimate goal is to be a part of this tournament, or maybe a professional team with my guys!
