Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jerry Sher. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jerry, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
I never set out to start my own business. It just kind of happened. I’d always wanted to work for myself, but honestly, I didn’t think I had the confidence or the know-how to pull it off. Then one day, an employer encouraged me to go for it. That push changed everything.
Fast forward nearly 14 years, and I can say without a doubt it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I get to run things my way, make my own schedule, and work with amazing people I’ve been lucky enough to hire and lead. It hasn’t always been easy. There have been plenty of challenges, but every obstacle has taught me something valuable.
If you’re thinking about starting your own business, here’s my advice: first, work under someone in your field. Learn the ins and outs, see what works and what doesn’t, and use that knowledge as your launchpad.
You’ll never feel 100% ready, but sometimes, you just have to take the leap.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I kind of stumbled into the world of physical therapy and wellness. Growing up, I was an athlete. I played tennis all through childhood and into college. I also trained as a professional dancer, which gave me a deep appreciation for movement, flexibility, and the freedom they bring.
When I learned that physical therapy was a growing field, especially with the baby boomer generation needing more care, it just clicked. I’d always been passionate about health. Eating well, staying active, and helping others improve their habits. Even as a kid, I found myself encouraging friends who struggled with their weight or unhealthy routines.
For me, physical therapy and wellness weren’t just a career choice. They were a natural extension of the activities, values, and passions that have shaped my whole life.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Yes, I would absolutely choose the same career again. The only other path I might have explored is psychology, because I’ve always been fascinated by the human mind. What I love most about my work is helping patients push past pain and fear, and seeing them achieve goals they once thought were out of reach. There’s nothing more rewarding than watching someone regain not just their physical health, but their confidence and sense of well-being.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
I wish I had taken some business courses before starting my practice. Understanding how to manage finances and knowing exactly what’s coming in and going out, is so important. It’s an area I didn’t have much knowledge in, and I’m still learning as my business grows.
