We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jerry Morka. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jerry below.
Alright, Jerry thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Everyday is a new risk being taken. For me the biggest risk so far would be moving out of my hometown to a different city to seek bigger & better opportunities. It’s been 7months since I left & I can honestly say it was the best risk I’ve ever had to take because it allowed me to discover part of myself that I didn’t know existed. It improved my work ethic & drive for success even more.
Jerry, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a video director, directed a lot of music videos & a few short films. I got into the industry in 2016 as a photographer, me & my friend decided to go into the industry together with her being a model & me being a photographer. I did photography for two years then transitioned into the film work shooting college parties, club events & any other video creation service you can take of. My main passion was music videos, I would always watch them & try to recreate the things I saw in them. I made my first move into the music video world with a artist group in Houston called Monk Vision Ent. We would shoot a video to the songs they made & post it. Getting some positive feedback I decide to learn more about the business side of things & started my own video production business on the smaller level. As things started to progress, I would get better & better with my craft from consistently doing the work. I started charging $500-800 for music videos to local artist in my area. In 2020 I got my first big budget video at the time & that’s what changed the game for me. I kept working with Monk Vision, creating dope videos together that I later used to create myself a reel that I sent out to directors & production companies that I looked up to & wanted to work with. After thousands of emails I finally heard back from a few giving me advice on how to improve my craft, I would take that advice & use it towards my next project. My work begun to elevate even more & it opened the door for bigger opportunities to come along leading me to where I am today. I put alot of hard work and dedication into my craft to get to where I am today.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My hard work for sure. I was always looking to go over & beyond for each client. Doing my best work in a timely manner that made me stand out. I was super reliable & ambition, always looking for new ways to be better & a lot of people took notice to that which helped build my name for me.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Reaching out to people. There’s a lot of clients out there that don’t know they need you until you tell them. I was always reaching out to companies & people in my field of work to offer my services to them in whatever way makes sense.
