We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jerry Gibson Jr a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jerry, thanks for joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
It was all gods work in 2018 I was working a job when I was approached by a co worker. He knew I had a musical background so he came to my office and played some of her music for me and I was impressed but i wasn’t back in the music game at that time. About a week later I met with his niece and the meeting was great so I went home and I simply asked god if it’s meant for me to get back in the industry make it possible for me to sign this particular artist . Long story short we came to an agreement I filed the paperwork and that was the beginning of my latest journey.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a lil old ceo from Albany, Ga. I ended up doing music because it started out as a way to let the world know about my cousin Jaquise who passed away when we were teenagers. As I got deeper into the music I started to like the business side a lil more because not only is that where the money is but that’s where you can create opportunities for others and build relationships. I not only own an award winning record company but I also on a film company as well. I mainly operate doing partnerships with my close circle that’s how I stay out of a lot of confusion . I do work with other business owners but those situations vary. The one thing that I’m most proud of is that I’ve been able to provide opportunities for so many artists and helped artists elevate their careers. I’m currently in the process of dropping the next line of my clothing R.K. Apparel also we start filming our first film in the summer staring myself, Kevin Williams III, Leslie Hudgins, and Dre Benjie.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being a people person and wanting to see the next person win. Doing music is not easy and it takes money the business is a risk it’s no guarantee you will win.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I keep in touch with the people who support us by being very active online and responsive to comments and posts you have to stay engaged with your fanbase because they make you who you are.
