We were lucky to catch up with Jerrine Plunket recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jerrine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
My job as a photographer can get crazy at times. I am often driving all over town fulfilling many different photo jobs. My photography varies from food, portraits, car, family and product photography. It’s a big range and they all require different elements such as lighting and equipment. There are times when I feel
like I am running ragged trying to do all my work on top of keeping up with home life as well as my kiddos and their activities.
Once in a while, I wonder if just having a “normal” daily job would be easier. But then I always snap back into perspective and remember that I am fortunate to do a job that I love and that gives me the flexibility to take care of my family the way that they deserve.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jerrine Plunket and I am a photographer. I got into photography in high school while working on the yearbook. I took photo classes in college and decided to make it my minor. After I graduated I got a job at a National School Studio. I worked there for 3 years taking school photos as well as high school senior portraits. This job was vital for my training. It taught me how to work with kiddos and balance a busy work day.
From there I started my photo company I Deux Photography. I primarily did weddings and babies at this time.
Over the years I evolved into a more diverse photographer working on several different photography platforms and gaining many repeat clients.
Working on different types of projects gives me the motivation to always push myself to become better.
I believe that with photography you are never really a master of your craft but rather a student who is always learning and growing. The potential is endless!
I think my clients appreciate the quality of work that I do, my creativity and attention to detail as well as my
Promptness and flexibility.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for me is consistency and longevity. This is a business that takes time to grow. You will not have 100 clients over night, but if you keep at it you will gain loyal clients that come back to you for all their photo needs.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me. The most rewarding part of my
job is that I get to be creative and fun. I’m not in an office all day, I’m usually in the mountains or at a park or at a restaurant. Wherever my shoot location is, it’s usually pretty interesting and/or exciting.
