We recently connected with Jerricka Staten and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jerricka, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

Coming up with the idea of You Love My Hair Care was a process. It all started with my good friend, Tianna, who recently went vegan and was making her own aloe spray for her hair. I love creating things, so we started playing with recipes for a hair cream. After the first couple of batches, I started to research more natural ingredients and different recipes on Youtube. I kept trying out recipes until I got my three core products: The Extreme Hair Growth oil, Strengthening shampoo, and Infinity cream. Once I had these three products, I transitioned to using only these products on my hair and my two daughters’ hair (now 3), along with other products I was testing out. I noticed that it would take me less time to do my hair, and it was more manageable than it had ever been, especially after going from relaxed to natural hair. To paint a picture for you, I have extremely thick and textured hair. It would take me an hour and a half to blow dry my hair. Using my products, I cut that down to 30-45 minutes depending on the style I was going for. At that point, I knew I had a product that was very effective and made with ingredients that I could easily research. I loved that majority of my ingredients had properties that could be utilized whether used topically or ingested. I also think that is what sets my brand apart from other brands because I provide that information to my customers.

Jerricka, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My name is Jerricka, and I am the owner and creator of You Love My Hair Care, a hair care line that specializes in using naturally derived ingredients. My goal with this line was to create products that would cut down the time spent doing your hair with ingredients that have been around for centuries. Not only can you use these ingredients on your hair and scalp, but majority of the ingredients can be taken orally to help with various aliments as well as improve your hair health.

I think what sets us apart from other hair care lines is that our main goal is to enhance your hair care experience. We want you to think of wash day as a moment of self care instead of a chore that will take up most of your day. Since some of our products can be used in multiple ways we can reach more people and the customer can feel like they are getting their money’s worth. I am most proud of the customer experience I provide. Not only do I make sure that you get exactly what you ordered in a timely manner, I also make myself available for any questions and feedback every step of the way.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

The best source of new clients for my company has been word of mouth. Majority of my customers come as referrals from already existing customers.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?

Advice I have for managing a team and maintaining high morale is to listen to your employees. Ask your employees what you can do to make sure that they feel supported in their role. Knowing your employees work styles and how they would like to be supported by you as their boss will take you far in your business. When a person feels valued and heard they preform better.
