We were lucky to catch up with Jerri Reid recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jerri, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
The first Idea I had was to create an eyeshadow palette that had the theme of social media since I was a blogger at the time. I named the colors things like DM Me, Blocked, Verified, etc. Once I had the concept I started to scout for vendors. I stumbled across one and went from there. The palette did well BUT I learned early on it wasn’t the direction I wanted my brand to go in.
Jerri, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Most have adapted to calling me Snobb but my name is Jerri. I started out as a blogger on Instagram. I posted the hottest trends and fashion. From hair, fashion looks, shoes, nails and more. My income at the time was based on promo from my Instagram blog page. Businesses would pay me to upload their photo or product on my page. I made a lot of money doing that until Instagram changed its algorithm. It made business extremely slow which encouraged me start a business for myself.
I now own The Snobb Collection. A luxury cosmetic line. Bringing attitude to the beauty industry.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I initially started my cosmetic line it was called Snobb Queen Cosmetics. It was based off of my Instagram name. Although I liked the name I didn’t want to get stuck in the category of having a “Instagram Business”. I wanted something like MAC. My husband and friends encouraged me to think bigger. That’s when The Snobb Collection came about and everything changed!
I started The Snobb Collection and although I loved the name I still felt like the direction was still off just a bit. So shortly after starting, I say about a year in I rebranded. Changed the colors to luxury and classic Black and White. I updated my logo, and stepped it up with the product selections and packaging.
Entrepreneurship will have so many twist and turns you just have to adapt and stay in control of what you can control. Create the brand you see in your head and don’t stop until you bring it to life.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Email marketing is KEY!! Social media is fine but when the app is down how are you contacting your customers? Text and email marketing is necessary! I went to beauty brands that Inspired my brand and signed up to their email list.
I wanted to know what they were putting In their subject line, h ow often they were sending out email blast, and what time they were sending them.
It’s something you really have to study or pay to get someone to do it for you.
