Jeronia, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Our mission is to provide safe and effective aesthetic treatments by licensed, highly trained professionals at affordable rates in a clean, welcoming environment.
I started this company as a way to offer people industry-leading aesthetic treatments by a licensed professional at affordable prices. Often, when we hear the term “med spa”, we automatically think of superficial vanity. However, many people who come to us are struggling with acne scars, facial hair, and other skin issues that are genuinely compromising their self-confidence. Seeing our patients become more comfortable, confident versions of themselves is the reason behind everything we do here at Skinsations. We’d love to see how we can help bring out the most naturally beautiful version of you!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
In 2015, aesthetician, Jeronia Murphy, opened Skinsations as a one-room facial treatment facility. With little seed money and a great passion for helping people become more confident in their appearance, Skinsations was founded upon two core beliefs:
Everyone deserves to look and feel their best.
The power of medical aesthetics is more than skin deep.
In the beginning, Skinsations’ business was built entirely upon word-of-mouth but a few happy clients quickly turned into many. Less than two years after opening, we were ready to graduate into the spacious, 12-room med spa facility in Brookhaven, GA that we call home today.
Our team of licensed, experienced spa professionals offer a full range of head-to-toe aesthetic services that include laser hair removal , PRP facelifts , micro-needling , chemical peels , massages , dermal fillers , IPL treatments , dermaplane , microdermabrasion, V-steam, and more.
Since no two patients are exactly the same, we customize treatments to each individual’s unique needs to achieve optimal results. We also believe high-quality spa treatments shouldn’t come with a high price tag or attitude and therefore strive to keep rates affordable without compromising effectiveness or experience. Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
Barely a year into business, we started experiencing growing pains, which soon resulted in needing a larger location. During this period I was responsible for overhead at our existing location while still paying out of pocket for the build out of the new location. Being 100% self funding since day one, this was a a very stressful time. Because I was less than two years in the industry, it was impossible to even qualify for a business loan to aid in the construction. As a result, I was forced to work a 2nd job in the evenings for close to six months to assure payroll and construction payments were met. Fortunately, working a 2nd job and running a business pulled the company out of the mud, so it could blossom the following years. As much as I would like to say this adventure has been smooth sailing, it was, instead, very choppy 1.5 years in. This is something I have never been fully open about, as I reflect, I am also counting my blessings.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
In this diverse industry: 1) keeping quality cosmetic modalities to accommodate all skin types and concerns.
2) having an amazing and knowledgeable staff who are eager to learn
3) making each individual who enters our spa feel truly valued and happy are our keys to success!
Keeping up with the latest trends, having a presence on social media both helps with growing clientele, but the most effective strategy for growing clientele IS our clientele! When someone leaves Skinsations after being treated, they refer their friends and family to also get services done at Skinsations. We are truly grateful for each client and I hope it shows with each experience.
