We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jerome Davis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jerome, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Initially I started comedy graduating from a 6 six week class at the Va beach funny bone. After that I started taking classes at the performers playground afterwards. Comedy is an art where you’ll never be a teacher you’ll be a student always learning trying to get better than your last set. It’s one of those things where there’s no cheat sheet no study guide & no answer sheet. You actually learn from performing but will get better from actually having a bad show.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My brand is my name Jerome Davis that’s all I got. Initially when I started I was going by Rome Davis. I decided to change to my biological name due to my father’s passing, I was named after him. My podcast is called No I.D. mainly because I couldn’t come up with a name nor a synopsis of the show. My comedy is relatable its realism & truth behind the jokes. I talk about my family friends and any life experiences I can think of. One of the best practices you can have is build that social media presence and continuous posting on all platforms.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The best way to support artist and creatives is to follow us on social media, buy merch, tag us on the photos you post and actually use the business cards we pass out. But definitely follow us on social media because the more followers the more we can get booked

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Though I took comedy school classes, it wasn’t until I started going to the Performers Playground every week where I unlocked my potential. And in the 4 years of doing comedy my resume includes Kenan Thompson Funniest Comics, Last comix standing, Michael Colyar morning show and opening for DL Hughley. I learned that when have a bad set you need to bounce back immediately
