We recently connected with Jermey Robinson and have shared our conversation below.
Jermey, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Any thoughts around creating more inclusive workplaces?
With me creating the IT Factor Podcast. It has afforded me the opportunity to show African American women and men in their professions. This has helped me to pine point and celebrate blacks and also being inclusive. I have been able to interview black doctors, lawyers, engineers, NFL Reps, and so many more in occupations I never knew existed. I am looking forward to helping tell so many other people’s stories and to keep my network growing.
Jermey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello, My name is Jermey Robinson. I am a Podcast host for (The IT Factor Podcast LLC). I have been doing podcasting for about 3 and a half years now. I have brought on blacks in all types of professions and It has been an awesome journey. So much so that I am now finishing up and publishing my second book named The Art of Networking An IT Factor Memoir. This book tells what networking has done for me and what it will do for others, and the importance of networking. I solve the problem of African Americans not seeing themselves in certain professions. I make sure to search and find all types of professionals in all fields of occupation to break the stigma of blacks not being in that area. What sets me apart from other podcasts is that I do not focus on one statue of a person for example, I have brought on some famous people, but they are not my common focus. I am working to bridge the gap to show people that common working people, entertainers, and athletes are all the same we are just treated differently in certain segments. I wanted to create a show where everyone could come on and tell their stories and the reason of why they are in there profession. I am most proud of all the great people I am able to meet due to my podcast and also just networking in general. I want my potential followers and supporters to know that I am out to change the narrative and that I love to show people that are doing great things in this world.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that everyone that I knew was going to support and help my business grow. I went into podcasting thinking that all my friends, college buddies and family was going to be my main supporters of the podcast. I then started to see that people I had never met before started to support me and my podcast. I now just focus on being consistent in dropping my episodes on youtube and the social media avenus I use. This helps me to make sure to engage with my supporters. This process has taught me to focus on doing the work and that the more you work on your dream the more times supporters will come and help to grow your vision.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I had to grow the resilience of the first starting outgrowth. Which to me means that once I started out, I was gaining a lot of followers and likes, etc. Once I got into about five episodes the numbers started to decline and I was like man why are my people not vibeing and watching this. I soon realized that no matter what this is a dream of minds and no matter how many times I thought about taking a break or stopping the podcast. I have always been able to shoot episodes, gain partnerships/ build networks and this is the reason that I continue to grow because It is not all about the number of viewers. It is about the message and the knowledge that is being put out every week. I am thankful that my business has become a passion of minds and I look forward to keep growing it organically. Never give up on your dreams because of lack of support. You have to be confident in your business or any dream before anyone can be a part of the growth of the business!
