We recently connected with Jermell & Alexis Carter and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jermell & Alexis, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Our story begins with the word of God, scriptures which are referenced in the Bible regarding “The Great Commission,” such as:
“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
Mark 16:15 NKJV
We are called and ordained by God to preach and teach the gospel of Jesus Christ, unfiltered, being lead only by God’s spirit, the Holy Spirit of God. In 2017, God spoke to us and revealed His kingdom intentions for our lives. He informed us that we are to serve and worship Him in spirit and in truth, as well as start His ministry, Fire Imparted Kingdom Ministries, here in Arizona. Unbeknownst to us, God sent us here to Arizona for ministry, for we initially moved to this great state for career & professional purposes. However, God revealed to us that He used career opportunities as a means to get us here to Arizona and it was for no other purpose that we were born, than to profess God’s great name, while ministering His truths unto His people.
In 2019, after a rough year of testing, proving, famine, and great opposition, amongst other things, it was during that time in which Fire Imparted Kingdom Ministries was officially formed. Ever since then, all of our time, talents, serving, and sowing belongs to God. Our testimony is one of total obedience to God, for we only do what our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ commands us to do and say, and for that we have been been blessed and shunned at the same time, for walking in total obedience to God’s commands. God’s ministry, Fire Imparted Kingdom Ministries, is to be planted first in Queen Creek, Arizona. However, this city, amongst others which God has given unto Himself through His ministry, including Gilbert, Mesa, & San Tan Valley, are all a part of the areas in which God has commissioned us to minister to His people. We are grateful to have fully accepted our call to ministry, for in doing what God commands us to do, is when we feel most fulfilled in our purpose. For God has given us this scripture:
“Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil—this is a gift of God.”
Ecclesiastes 5:19 NIV
We come from professional backgrounds in law enforcement and education, wherein we were very successful in our former careers. However, as God revealed His true purpose, intentions, and calling for our lives by ordaining us to be His chosen vessels, sent to serve at the behest of God Almighty through being bondservants of Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior, our interest and desires no longer aligned with our previous careers. Over time, we felt unfulfilled and unhappy doing things that were unrelated to our true purpose, which was to serve God in ministry. But stepping away from our former careers, was not an easy task or decision, however, we made up our minds to trust God and upon doing so, we felt a greater sense of God’s complete and total peace.
Jermell & Alexis, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We are overseers of Fire Imparted Kingdom Ministries. Through diligent prayer and obedience, we accepted and received God’s calling and ordination for our lives in 2017. In 2019, we stepped out on faith and fully submitted ourselves to God’s kingdom intentions, purpose, and plans for ministry. We are grateful, that God has used us to minister to His people, here in Arizona, with much prayer, power, purpose, intercession, kingdom teaching, and encouragement. We have been blessed to host events, to fellowship, and to pray with God’s people.
During a season of testing and proving in 2019, God commanded us to write His book, The God Ruled Church. The God Ruled Church is a book of exhortation, warning, and instruction for the body of Christ. The book explores and expounds upon revealed revelation to the following questions:
* What does God say about His church?
* How is the church to function?
* What part do we as believers play?
God’s book also speaks on the fundamentals of Christianity, sheds light on some of the inadequacies of today’s modern day church, and highlights what Lord Jesus Christ desires for His church. We have, through guidance of the Holy Spirit, spent several months working on this book. The book was released roughly a year and a half after it was initially written. As God revealed the timeline for His book to be released, we have witnessed the things of God receive great opposition, even amongst those who call themselves believers of Jesus Christ. For even the publishing of God’s book was delayed because of the disobedience of others, as we endured much opposition during the process of getting the book published. Therefore, this body of work is very important to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and we are very excited to see His will accomplished, as His book is a tool to bring God’s church into the fullness in which He intends, for all church houses to be, a God Ruled Church.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Obedience is our testimony and still is to this day, as God Almighty has ordained for obedience to be our life mandate. It is at times uncomfortable, but it is a requirement as we serve God and worship Him. Lord Jesus says this:
““If you [really] love Me, you will keep and obey My commandments.”
John 14:15 AMP
In 2019, we experienced famine and financial hardship, unlike anything we had ever experienced before. During this time, we had to unlearn what we were taught regarding self-reliance and had to relearn how to simply trust God with everything. We had to trust God to take care of our family, our finances, and our well being. We fasted, prayed, worshipped and cried out to the Lord several times. It seemed as if we experienced compounding events, that lead us into famine.
At the start of the year, we experienced loss of income from the federal government shut down. It was during that time where God, informed Jermell that he would soon step away from his career in federal law enforcement. During that time and season, God commanded us to continue in much fasting, and we actually ran out of food and gasoline. We were grateful to God, that our children were well fed during that entire season, however we ran out of food for us during the entire duration of our fasting which God commanded us to do. For we were restricted by the types of food God chose for us to consume, but our children were under no such restriction and could eat the things that we weren’t allowed to consume, which as it turned out were all the food items we had plenty of, so God indeed blessed our children, for which we were exceedingly grateful. The Lord knows the end from the beginning, because just six months prior, God commanded us to go on a 40 day fast at the start of the next year, which would have been in 2019. Approximately six months prior to that time, we did not foresee that we would run out of food and money. However, we had plenty of food for our children, as we had food that they could eat which was reserved specifically for them, but we did not have enough money to purchase produce and therefore were only able to receive produce from individuals that were giving it away, namely, free citrus fruit and other things the Lord allowed us to be blessed with during our season of hardship. When those 40 days were over, we were grateful, however 90 days later, God commanded Jermell to step away from his career permanently. Just eight months into the year, we experienced famine once again, this time it seemed worse. We had to resort to getting food boxes from local agencies and had to sign up for WIC to receive food for our children. At the time, this felt demoralizing, however God gave us much favor with food. As God commanded us to fast even during that time, we were blessed to receive boxes of produce from local agencies, even at times receiving more than what they would normally allow. God supernaturally blessed us by having strangers pay for our groceries at the local grocery stores. On several occasions, we would purchase food, such as lamb and fish, and God would allow us to find these items on sale, deeply discounted, and at other times, these items would supernaturally be rung up for free at the cash register. We experienced a lot of supernatural blessings with food, as we invited the Lord Jesus to go with us everywhere, even as we shopped for groceries. God had to teach us and show us that He would provide for our family, no matter what. During this time, we were behind several months on our utilities, however God provided and a local agency paid for our utility bills. All of these things occurred, including being afflicted in our bodies, all while writing God’s book, The God Ruled Church, for we would find out much later that during this time, there were several people choosing to curse God’s intentions within us, because of the vision that God shared with us, regarding the advancement of His vision for His kingdom, which was also for the benefit of His people, but the heart and minds of man are indeed a fickle thing. For those who chose to curse God’s intentions within us, could not foresee any advancement of God’s kingdom within us, for the Lord’s unfiltered truth to be spoken through His chosen vessels and many chose to curse, instead of bless God’s intentions and the Lord shared this scripture regarding all of the opposition that we received during that time and even continue to receive to this very day:
“I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
Genesis 12:3 NKJV
However, once the book was finished, we began to experience more peace, God had to restore our health, give us peace when we slept, and even made it financially possible for our family to buy the foods that we want and needed. To this very day, our children are oblivious to the opposition and famine that we experienced, they continue to be happy, healthy, and well fed, all to God’s glory.
We learned much during this time, for the Lord was showing us the importance of inviting God with us everywhere that we go, trusting and obeying Him. As a result of our unwavering obedience to God’s commands, we have experienced much peace and supernatural favor when we go shopping and while we are out and about, away from home.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
We had to unlearn everything, that we learned about church and ministry. We both grew up going to church throughout our childhood and adulthood. God showed us that ministry cannot be done within our own ability and neither is God supposed to be excluded from any and all decision making. We went through a tough season of testing, proving, and eventual rejection before fully stepping into ministry, where we served and worshipped the Lord at another ministry, that wasn’t willing to obey God’s commands. Because of that particular ministry’s disobedience, the Lord told us that we would learn more through observing what wasn’t being done correctly, since that particular ministry, though confirming God’s commands in prayer, had no interest in following through on the Lord’s intentions, which turned out to be the case with many churches. So as we continued our faithful walk before the Lord in obedience, God commanded us to attend and serve at that particular ministry for what seemed like an extended period of time, in order for us to learn more by what was not being done right. We witnessed many things at this particular ministry that was not of God, many things that God revealed was displeasing to Him and so much more revelation which the Lord made known to us through what we observed. However, we were not there to affect change, God only told us to watch, look, listen, see, and hear.
We served God in diligence and obedience, while we served at this particularly ministry for years, even while, at many times, being disrespected, shunned, and often overlooked. However, God would not release us until we saw and observed everything that He wanted us to see, for when the Lord commanded us to leave that ministry, many individuals mistook our leaving the church, as though we were leaving God, which angered the Lord. All of those comments displeased God greatly, for none were actually discerning that it was God, who was commanding each of our actions, from serving to sowing and eventually leaving that particular ministry. Our obedience to God was misunderstood, for during that time at that ministry, God reminded us of His word:
“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,”
Colossians 3:23 NKJV
Nevertheless, God had to show us His way. He used the process of us writing, The God Ruled Church, to teach us about His church, the church that has been given to Lord Jesus Christ. We had to learn that many things which we grew up learning, particularly man’s traditions, are not approved or condoned by God. God had to completely shift our paradigm about church, ministry, and His will, and as ministers we are not smart enough, in of ourselves, to exclude God and to make any decisions concerning God’s church, without Him. God has shown and taught us, that many churches are inadequate, in error, and experience issues because Jesus Christ is not included in all decision making: including spiritual, physical, and financial decisions. For all things must be done God’s will, God’s way, as the Lord our God Almighty will have His, God Ruled Church.
